What if matthews puts money where his mouth is

Created by: PuckPal
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2018
Published: Sep. 23, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So Matthews has stated he wants to win in TOR and with Marner and Nylander on the roster. A way to keep all 3 happy is if Matthews pulls a Crosby and walks into Dubas office and takes a huge pay cut on the premise that that money goes to Nylander and Marner. He takes a 6 year contract and is the 1st to UFA and can get McDavid salary making him the same mount over the length of his career and keep his 2 good friends happy salary wise and in TOR for a very long time. I get this is wishful thinking but in my opinion everyone but nylanders camp knows he isn't seeing 8 million and odds are this will put a bitter taste in Nylanders mouth and could start the clock of getting to UFA and moving on. This will show how dedicated Matthews is to this team, how bad he wants Marner and Nylander here for a very long time. Before people ask why bring up Crosby he demanded that he gets only 8.7 even though even Ozi got about 3 mill more that same year but on the premise Malkin make more to make sure they were together for a very long time. This is a fact and it was well documented going into negotiations that crosby did this so that he would be part of something very special and seeing he knew he would make millions a year in endorsements to offset his lose in salary.

Ya the same cap hit percentage of Crosby's contact when signed compared to the future salary cap of 82 mil would be 11.89 mil. Matthews is not going to take below 10.

The point was the only way nylander will see 8 million. Like i said its wishful thinking but if nylander needs to cave like everyone knows he does he will be unhappy with how much the leafs value him and walks if 4-5 years. And 10-11 million is what Matthews is worth look at simalar players and what they make (ie Eichel, Stamkos) so when he signs for lets say 11 million thats just market value thats not leaving any money on the table

I love how people believe what is said to the press. Lol.

“but Jeff Skinner says he want’s to stay in Raleigh”. Waives NTC for Buffalo.

‘’But Max Pacioretty says he loves Montreal and wants to stay here”. Fires agent for not getting him out of there.

“But the new Canes owner says he does not want to move the team to Houston and is going to put more $ into the team”. Lowest payroll in league

How many players tell the press “i want to finish my career here” only to demand a trade or walk via FA first chance they get? Don’t believe what players and front office says to press, they just tell them what wants to be heard.

When Matthews signs a massive offer sheet from Arizona next year only Leafs fans will be shocked. ‘but he said....”

Mac had 100 points once. prior to this season people were saying Barkov would have been the better #1 selection in the draft. Sid has consistently been a dominate player throughout the entire life of his contract and will continue to be for years to come.

Tongue in cheek. But....Arizona kid, grew up cheering for Yotes, plenty of cap space. Might actually draw interest from locals. Stranger things have happened.

Lmao....so your saying he lied to Tavares when he promised him he was going to be there for most to all he years of tavares contract. Matthews may listen but his agent knows he'd be losing millions a year in endorsement $$$ moving back to and playing for ARI. But i guess matthews wants to never win again but that won't happen in ARI right their one of the best run teams in the NHL.

Watching his interview with Tavares and him right there saying that yes I’m staying here with Tavares and hearing Bobby Orr saying that yes he he will be making a long term deal with the leafs and that is where he wants to be.... really leaves me to believe that they are genuine. This doesn’t sound like pillow talk to me.

And they probably are moving soon to Seattle so the allure is being part of the last year in ARI for NHL hockey?

The thing is in both situations the teams didn't want them anymore and though they wanted to stay the organization told them that they would not be resigned. Also Pacioretty fired he agent for allowing the Habs to shop him without his permission. So in both situation they didn't lie they were just pointing out to fans that they wanted to stay but the teams did not want them anymore.

Per cap friendly it 14.5 percent of the cap at the time Crosby signed. So check your facts.

Seattle is getting an expansion team not an existing team.

The last line was semi-sarcastic. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. However someone will try to offer sheet him.

Btw - Tavares signing cut down on Matthews endorsement potential. Paying taxes in 2 countries on the kind of contract he will get sucks too. Winning is not guaranteed no matter who you sign with.

Lol. Max fired his agent for not getting an extension done with LA when a trade was in place. No team needs permission to shop a player under any circumstances. Players with NMC or NTC have to agree to a trade, but teams can “shop” them all they want to see what is out there.

Actually they do need to give a list of teams they will accept a trade. From what i read Max was not aware his agent was talking to LA until draft day and then when he didn't get the extention it was the final straw. So he wasn't aware his agent was talking to other teams and never offically gave him a list yet which soured their relationship. But the main point was they wanted to stay with those teams but in both situations the team told them they were no longer wanted and its in both side best interest to trade them to teams that would resign them. So they never lied about wanting to stay they just didn't want to stay where they were no longer wanted.

I can't see Matthews taking a pay hair cut. just so the Leafs would overpay Nylander. Let's be real 8m a year would be make Nylander the 6th highest paid winger in the league....not going to happen.

This is the difference between facts and knowledge...when Sydney signed his contract it was just before the CBA lockout teams were allowed to spend 70.2m the cap was later dropped to 60m after the season got under way.

Like I said before math is your friend. If you don’t believe me look it up and do the math. Don’t believe everything you read on here....

Oh i get that im not saying that nylander us even worth 7 hence why he didn't get an offersheet this offseason or if he did they were less than 8 million. I was just pointing out a creative way matthews can keep nylander happy but like i said it wishful thinking. Odds are nylander takes a bridge and get 7-8 in 2 years on a long term deal.

They have to give a list of teams they have to accept a trade to per terms of their NTC. It does not prohibt teams from talking to any team. The player can always waive his NTC if a trade is presented to him for a team not on the list.

BS. Max was pushing for a trade to Fla the previous year at the deadline when they showed interest. He would have gone to Siberia to get out of there.

So what was the cap? 60m? Okay then. That allowance wasn't the cap. You sound like an idiot and are making leafs fans look bad. Take your L and walk away.
