Low risk low cost trade for RHD with up side

Created by: Davisoc
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 24, 2018
Published: Sep. 24, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Toronto is in better shape than most people think, I believe the main piece that is keeping them from competing is a bottom four RHD. There is this idea that Toronto needs a number one, but I believe they can make due with what they have and develop.

First off, Sanheim is LHD, the only logical option from Philly is Myers and it would take more than Kappy to get either of those.

I just don't see where Kapanen fits in Philly any better than he fits in Toronto? Looking at their roster, he ends up as a 4th liner (behind Konecny, Voracek, Simmonds). Even if he played the left side, he'd still be behind Giroux, JVR, and possibly one of Laughton or Lindblom.

He'd be above Konecny because they want him at C, he'd be above lindbolm and Laughton, he'd push JvR for that spot... but your right he's not a good fit for philly

He is listed as a RD on Philly's roster, I shouldn't have assumed. And as for Kappi's fit on that team, with an aging forward group I think he would be a great addition. Simmons is on an expiring contract and with JVR coming on could have priced himself out.

Who else should Toronto look for that is similar to Sanheim?

I’m not on board with the D panic but if we were to move for a Dman I would think spurgeon and tanev with retention would fit the bill.

Thats why I want a good bottom four with upside. We have the ability to move Kappi or Brown. I think Brown is the one worth keeping. Especially because Kappi comes with that first round chip that SHOULD get him more value. One of these two will have to go for long term anyway, so I say move them. Nevermind this stress for a top 2 RHD, its just not worth the panic as you said. But look at deep teams on D. I look at Carolina. Kappi could move right into their top 6 and probably be dominant. Just some thoughts.
