They wouldn't unless he deserved it. He would be rotating with JFK and Frédéric based on performance until Bergeron comes back. They would need all three young guys for depth. He can play 9 games without burning it. I don't expect Bergeron to be out long but you never know. Can't call him back up once he's in junior.

First, yes you can call him up.
Second, that’s an unbelievably poor way of managing a young player.

We will have to agree to disagree at this point because I don't think they can call him back from junior and if that's the case they might need him at center if Bergeron is having injury issues. If all of that is the case it wouldn't be "unbelievably poor" anything, I'd call it intelligent.

I don't have a copy of the CBA, but I can tell you that any player in the Canadian Junior Leagues cannot be recalled by their NHL team once the NHL season starts. They have to appear on the opening day roster.
Now, if they play more than 9 games, their first year of their entry level contract begins. That's why teams usually give their CHL players a 9-game tryout, and then make a decision on whether to keep the player in the NHL, or to send them back to the CHL for the season. Once they're sent back, they cannot be recalled.

Also this applies, but not especially:

The person who has answered is actually wrong but only on a small detail. A junior player may only be called in an emergency situation. For example the Leafs had to call someone up because of an injury but there farm team was on the road but they had Kadri playing in London who could be called up. It can only be on an emergency basis. The 9 game rule is correct however. The emergency Junior call up is likely only 1 MAX 2 games

Or you could use one of the other dozen players who's development wouldn't get screwed up

I hardly believe 9 games is going to screw any prospect up, let alone Studnicka. Nice job acknowledging the junior call up rule.

They can call him up on emergency basis. That’s what I was referring to. Keeping him for 9 games is fine. Keeping him in the stands for any period of time is stupid

I don't think you are grasping the concept of what constitutes as an emergency or the concept that Studnicka wouldn't be sitting on the bench the whole time. He would be splitting time with JFK and Frédéric.
