Opening Day Roster 2016-17

Created by: matt_tea
Team: 2016-17 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 29, 2016
Published: Apr. 29, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs get the 2nd overall pick at the draft lottery but they sign Stamkos in the offseason. Trade Bozak and Trade for Datsyuk's contract for extra picks. Stamkos and Nylander lines are the scoring lines. Kadri and Froese lines are the defensive/energy lines. Michalek and Greening will get rotated in to showcase them for the trade deadline. Lupul is on LTIR because I assume he will be hurt half the time but his cap hit is still on the books.

Think the Wings will find a partner in Winnipeg or Arizona at a cheaper price. That would add another 7 m in cap space. But that looks as good as any lineup that we can project now. IMO Laine is either going to be in Europe or the AHL next season (like Nylander was)

Ya I can see that but I think even if he ends up playing the majority of next year in the AHL I think they would still start him with the Leafs to start the season to see if he can cut it.

Bozak deal is pretty ugly for COL. Do they really need a C?

Well I think I would rather play Bozak in the No2 slot and move MacKinnon to the wing. Soderberg looks better on the 3rd line.

The Avs are pretty locked into MacKinnon at center. However, there are plenty of teams who would trade a 2nd for Bozak, including Tampa Bay.

I feel like Froese won't crack the lineup, also we won't have our entire group of right wings being rookies.

First two lines are good like that, but 3rd and 4th will more likely be

      Laine-Nylander-Michalek
      Greening-Laich-Brown

Something like that, Hyman and brown would alternate as healthy scratches for the beginning of the season, Until one of them takes over for Michalek. i could be wrong however.

Defensive lines look good, except I think Marincin will play with Reilly.

Overall, 4 of 5 for me. Just a couple line tweaks... but pretty much everyone I expected to see in the lineup in that situation.

Tampa isn't going to trade for Bozak lol....

Matt_tea: Just my opinion, but i see it the opposite: if he starts with the Leafs its because the KNOW hes ready, any doubt and he'll start in the AHL until he proves hes too good for that (probably wont take long)
Its not like Marner where they almost have to experiment with him in the NHL...Regardless i think LAINE starts with the leafs right away...

but with regards to Bozak, Avs dont need him, few, if any will pay a 2nd for him... if the asking price is a low 3rd or 4th and an okay prospect, I'm sure a bunch of teams will show interest
4.2 for a 2/3 Centre with questionable D is tough to take on
