Nylander wants 7+ years at $7M+ AAV. Toronto wants to spend $6M AAV for 5 years from what I've heard. The compromise is 6 years and just under $7M AAV for both sides.

It was a comparison from Larkin's $6.1M AAV for 5 years to Nylander's similar projected values for the Leafs. Source

Nylander wanting longer term is well known.

Ennis will not start over Leivo, he gets pushed off the puck very easily and makes the league minimum, they'll bury him or trade him to Edmonton where he'll replace Rattie on the first line because despite him lighting up the preseason, he isn't an NHLer.

Using a rumour site as a source is about as accurate as using the crazy guy named Stan that hangs out at your local Tim Hortons and talks to anyone who will listen about how the earth is flat.

Leafs are likely taking notes of comparable AAV from around the League to make an educated offer for Nylander. A 5 year deal is like an "extended bridge" deal for rewarding back-to-back 61 point seasons as a rookie RW, but not locking in at higher AAV with longer term in case the wheels fall off the Nylander wagon in that span (maybe concussion? maybe demoted to Kadri's line if production falters? you name it...). That source might be a rumor, but I've heard this from multiple sources.

I disagree, he looked okay in the first 2 games and terrible against Montreal, he isn't nearly good enough to play with Matthews. He has skill and speed but he can't cycle the puck at all and unless he's on a rush, is useless. Weak in his own end and way too small to do anything around the net.

The Title of your second source says everything. "Why a bridge deal COULD be what is best for Leafs' Nylander". SPECULATION IS NOT A SOURCE

Lets do some fact checking on this.

What have Nylander or anyone connected to his camp stated to the public? Nylander himself has said he wants a long term deal, he loves Toronto and wants to be here for a long time.
What has the team said in regards to this negotiation? Dubas has said several times he wants a long term deal with Nylander.

So those are the facts we have to operate on. Everything else and I really want that to sink in, EVERYTHING else is 100% speculation. Speculation is not a source, its some person sitting around and guessing stuff.

Here is some actual food for thought on this.

i think he is much better than leivo is. Ennis may not be amazing with matthews but he has more speed then leivo and will compliment Kadri better on the third line

Ennis can't cycle the puck, he immediately gets knocked off the puck and I think with Brown there as well, Leivo is a better match. He can play a heavier game and be strong on the puck. Leivo's a decent skater for a bigger guy, he's definitely not slow. Plus he has as good of a shot and has proven he can produce if given a chance to play offensive minutes which he will with Kadri. Ennis was a low risk signing that I think will end with him being a healthy scratch all season, or play 4C if Lindholm does't pan out.
