Your premise is wrong. Why do the Leafs have to trade Nylander? They certainly don't have to, and why would they?

So, GM in the making. Do you want to set a precedent for your team.? A RFA doesn't like your offer...so he tries to forces a trade. Is the same thing going to happen to Marner and Matthews next year?

precedent, lets beh onest here, this has already happened.
Some would say the longer this contract goes unsigned the more likely it is for him to be traded. Much like a lot of other players did before him.
