Do yourself a favour and look at his stats last year.

We'll take him back! Would a 7th do it?

I have liked almost everything Dubas has done since arriving. Losing Mac is a HUGE mistake. I understand the pedigree coming with Sparks this year, but lets not kid ourselves here, the AHL is not the NHL no matter how similar. Mac knows what it is like to go against Ovi, Crosby and top tier talent, Sparks does not. I just do not understand it.

I totally agree though he maybe a 20-25 game goalie if they can get Darling to be 40 game 25 wins, Mrázek to play 20 games and 10 wins, mac can win 15 by last years numbers the canes are probably in the playoffs. But they are getting one of the best backups in hockey maybe not starter material but can carry his load and not be distraction in the locker room.

I get the concern im little myself but lets trust Dubas and babcock understand hockey and know what sparks is capable of and can be this year.

I just hate trading a sure thing for potential. I get it, I do. But Mac looked like he didn't miss a beat in preseason.

I wouldn't say sure thing, but yeah he would have been the first option IMO, that being said Sparks should be fine, Kaskisuo looks good too if that doesn't work, and if ll else fails, Steve Mason is looking for a job...

Well actually Sparks put up similar numbers in preseason but at some point they were going to need to see what they have in Sparks but i do honestly think sparks has they ability to win just as many games as mac did for the leafs.

Whoever is in net night is the starter. I wouldn't worry about the abilities of Mcillerney. Maybe dropping Mrzarek might be the best Cane option.

How you gonna have him break into the league if he doesn’t play? It makes sense to me, but as a backup with no depth I’m a little concerned.

2 weeks Lower body injury I know but McElinney? There are a load of better options. Ned, go get subban from Vegas go get Stalock or Dell I don’t get why McElinney

Actually he was maybe one of the goalies stat wise for games played last year. Yes he is a pure backup but if any team wants to make the playoffs have a good backup is key. And if he can put up similar numbers they can flip him at deadline for a late pick to a playoff team he has a very good contract seeing most backups of his ability make double his salary.

Theres no point in trading. Mcelinney will be back on waivers as soon as Darling is back. Might see him play 2 games.

You are so right, and I agree. But "as a backup with no depth". What happens if a Vegas situation happens? Toronto went from having lots of depth to none. Not a great look.

Mason or Lehtonen get a phone call, or one of the backups from Minnesota, San Jose, LA, get a call and a job, maybe move for Ryan Miller which is what I wanted Carolina to do

There are definitely a few options. They sign Jeff Glass to an AHL contract, so there is at least some breathing room.
