trades that i think would make sense for both teams

Created by: mlbrunner16
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 8, 2018
Published: Oct. 8, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
read the trade details for info on why i think these make sense
Trades
1.
TBL
  1. Zuccarello, Mats ($2,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The lightning and rangers are familiar trade partners and with the lightning being desperate to win now they make another trade with a familiar GM. The lightning get back Zucc at half salary for the end of the season and playoffs who can play on their top line with Kuch and Stam and set them up with his playmaking ability. They also get rid of callahan's terrible contract in the process. The rangers get back a very good RHD prospect to add to their arsenal of the future.
2.
NYR
  1. Labanc, Kevin
  2. Meier, Timo
Additional Details:
Labanc is a local guy from brooklyn, looks like he can be a middle 6 player . Meier is the big piece in this trade and will play in the rangers top 6 for years to come. the rangers are trying to get pieces for the future and so they are content giving up the draft picks and hayes/Names for meier and Labanc who can be part of their future. San Jose would have some difficulties locking these guys up long term with EK getting his big pay day this season.
SJS
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($2,575,000 retained)
  2. Namestnikov, Vladislav ($2,000,000 retained)
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (NYR)
  4. 2019 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
With Jumbo Joe in and out of the lineup, this allows the sharks to fill their top 6 with a versatile C/W that can play a very similar game to Thorton for a much smaller cap hit for this season and the ability to resign him for the future.... and is only 26yo. They also receive Namestnikov who never seemed to mesh with the Ranger's organization but has show to be a very skilled winger when put into the right situation. He can take the place of Timo meier in the top 6 and still wouyld have another year on an extremely cap friendly deal. With the rangers rebuilding and having a log jam at center it allows the rangers to play their young guys in their intended roles.

I think the Rangers should be able to get more for a half off Zuccarello... Cal Foote is a good prospect, but I don't think he's worth essentially a 1st (worth of Zucc elsewhere) plus taking on an expensive 4th liner contract for 2 years. Not the worst deal I've seen, but don't think it's likely.

Zuccarello would probably cost a bit more, especially with Callahan's contract coming back. I like the SJS trade. The Rangers might need to add a little but it's pretty close.

I'd kill for that deal from San Jose.

Cal Foote is not good at hockey. Why would you take on a bad contract for Zucc? He's worth a 1st +

I agree with you on zuc. They are fleecing the sharks on that deal. Lebanc is very good, and meir is good as well. Neither Hayes or Namestikov are 2 line centers and one could make a case both sharks players are better today, let alone in the future.

I agree that the sharks players are better and are not worth Hayes and Names, which is why i put the picks in place as well, but the point i was trying to make with them is that they would be potentially cheaper options moving forward instead of the sharks having to resign EK and Labanc and Meier and trying to make a push for the cup with hayes and names who can put up similar points and have more cup experience.
