In one corner, we have Nylander. He's a good 22 year old winger, but showed zero offensive progression from year 2 to year 3. He looks to be a 20 goal scorer who will get you 60 points, and that's pretty good. A little less than a third of his points over his career have come on the powerplay, and unfortunately, he won't be on a PP with Matthews in Carolina. He has massive contract issues, as it sounds like he wants big time dollars, big time term, and has no fear of holding out.
and in the other corner, you've got a number 2 d man. He's really good, he's young, and he has an amazing contract for 6 years.
If Pesce and Nylander were both RFA's, this trade would make a ton of sense. However Pesce has a great contract, and it doesn't seem like Nylander is willing to take anything but top dollar, or even more, for a 60 point 22 year old RFA.
This trade makes a ton of sense for Toronto, and zero sense for the Hurricanes.
