If the Penguins really want Nylander

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 10, 2018
Published: Oct. 10, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs want a RHD and I cannot see it being Letang. It will take more than just Schultz, so a 1st and Sprong are added. Penguins need to take a dman back, so Hainsey is part of it. Hagelin is put in for cap reasons, and the Penguins take Leivo back.

Leafs can get better offers.. this might not even be enough.

Nylander wants more now because he knows Marner and Matthews will get big increases, so he wants to stay close to them. On a team like Pittsburgh, $7M AAV puts him just over Kessel and not too far off Crosby and Malkin. Although it is not the exact same context, Turris signed a deal in Nashville he was unwilling to sign in Ottawa. Nylander might take less knowing he's a lot closer to everyone.

This is one of the more fair trades I have seen. I think the Leafs ask for 1 more pick maybe a 2nd ot 3rd in a few years, but logic is good.
And yeah Willy would need 8 I think.

Thank you! And yeah I guess a little raise to 7.5-8M would make sense.

Is that the reason? He wants to make close to what others will? I'm curious for a source for that. Also, when Malkin and Crosby signed those deals, their % of the cap was WAY higher than it is now. So it really isn't the "same".

A lot of analysts have said that Nylander does not want to sign for a certain amount this season and see Marner/Matthews make considerably more next season. I do not know if it's official and it makes sense. As for the AAV, I can see it going up to 7.5-8M.

Not really the point of what you're saying, but that Thing about Turris not being open to signing that deal in Ottawa was a flat out lie from Melnyk and Dorion. Was never offered that deal. Julie Turris called this out when that story surfaced. Only reason Duchene trade happened is because Melnyk didn't want to pay Turris.

Any deal for Nylander starts with Guentzel. Probably Schultz+Guentzel, which if I was a PIT fan, I'd still do.

I can't see the Penguins doing that. They love Guentzel and would not trade him.

You are getting a 22 year old who has put up 60+ points in the past 2 seasons. Schultz is an important piece, but you need to give something to get something. Sprong has potential, but is not proven. He is getting 4th line minutes right now. Hagelin is good but replaceable. The first will be a late one if the Penguins make this trade so that is not their biggest concern. ZAR can come up and you still acquire Leivo in this deal.

They do love him, but Nylander is a much better dynamic player. But I understand PIT love his playoff scoring.

Agreed. 8M is still great for a 22 year old!

Pens don’t want him that bad. Schultz isnt getting traded unless he is replaced. Pens pass. Especially since our RW position is fine. If Nylander shot left, it may be worth talking about, but since that’s not the case, no use in even considering it.
