There are reports they want to trade a forward because they have a serious excess of waiver eligible forwards and if they dont make a trade, they either make their team worse by sending down a waiver exempt player that has earned a spot, or they lose a good player on waivers. Gallagher in all liklihood isnt the guy they would move, but the oilers need to round out their forward core and he would fit nicely. As far as the Kassian trade I just picked a team at random, its more likely he would just get put on waivers.

I think both of these trades are awful but I will say that I do see Montreal and Edmonton being two teams that can help each other out. Edmonton shouldn't but they could give up some picks to get a couple players off Montreal's roster. Montreal has a lot of okay depth guys but a questionable defence and zero centre depth. Edmonton has pretty good centre depth and absolutely zero depth anywhere else in their lineup. Perhaps Edmonton could send RNH to Montreal for 3 players or something.

I’d say Montreal has decent center depth, but no quality centers.
