Don't kno. how Brown's 2.1m. deal hurts the Leafs cap wise. But Willy is 6.5m player, certainly not over 7m.

he doesn't hurt the cap but will have to leave the team sooner or later because of heavy contracts for other players. Whether Willy worth under or over 7m leafs should give him new contract soon because he might be overpaid by other NHL team.

Certainly Nylander value diminishes if he signed to an overpaid contract. But there is a bigger issue here. The Leafs aren't going to trade a RFA just so he can get paid a few dollars more elsewhere. What happens next year? Matthews and Marner don't sign with the Leafs and expect to traded to a team that will pay them more money. No, most RFAs can't be expected to get UFA money. That's the privilege of UFAs
Would other teams overpay Nylander? Maybe a few might But most have their own RFAs to sign. They like the Leafs don't want/can't overpay players.

Cap wise Nylander is slight better then Larkin, Like Pahal said Nylander is a $6.5 million per year player not $7 to $8 million per. Larkins $6.1 million should be a gauge for Nylanders contract.

I like the point that I think you were trying to make here at the end. Other teams are happy we aren’t willing to overpay nylander. Than he can’t be used as an inflated comparable like the Draisatl contract.
