I was kinda banking on the fact that the Rangers would be bad enough to get a top 5 pick, causing the 1st to slide to next year. Regardless it does seem like quite a bit and is definitely something the Rangers wouldn't do.

Rangers are a non playoff team. They should save their assets. Next summer sign a UFA that make sense. Could be Stone or Panarin. Stone is good but 8,5m for 7 years, yea some team is going to pay that, but is it long term wise?

Is it worth paying a 27 y/o Mark Stone 8.5 for 7 years? Yes.

I don't think the Rangers would do it as they probably plan to make a big play for Panarin this off-season. Although they definitely have the assets to do so. They have so much prospect depth that there may not be a NHL spot for the players being traded away
