Redraft these 10 players in one massive draft knowing how they have performed so far in their NHL careers. do not consider the players contract - just skill
my list would be:
1. McDavid
Tied 2. Matthews
Tied 2. MacKinnon
4. Barkov
5. Eichel
6. Laine
7. Hischier
8. Ekblad
9. Patrick
10. Reinhart
Definitely MacKinnon at #2 behind McDavid. He centers the #1 line in the league right now and he finished runner-up in the Hart last year. Matthews hasn't equalled either feat yet. He might be better by the time he's the same age McKinnon is now, but right now, I'd take McKinnon all day. Matthews might not even be the best Center on his team right now.
1. McDavid
2. Matthews (Just so I don't get death threats essentially)
3. Eichel
4. Mackinnon
5. Laine
6. Barkov
7. Ekblad
8. Hischier
9.Patrick
10. Reinhart
Even with Mackinnon's breakout year, Eichel is still at a higher points per game.
Eichel ahead of MacKinnon??? No way! Not even close! McKinnon is easily a top 5 player in the league right now. He centers one of the top 2 lines in the league. Eichel has shown flashes of greatness, but he'll never be the elite playmaker and goal scorer that McKinnon is right now. He's nowhere near the skater that McKinnon is either. Eichel hasn't made the playoffs yet, which MacKinnon did in his first season in COL. Talk to me when Eichel puts up 97 points in 74 games and finishes runner-up in the Hart Trophy race.
1. McDavid: 2 time defending Art Ross Winner (#1 by a long shot).
2. MacKinnon: Last season's Hart Trophy runner-up; 2 playoff appearances; Calder Trophy Winner.
3. Matthews: Elite goal scorer; Excellent 2-way Center; 84G in just 155 career games.
4. Barkov: Best defensive Forward from this group, by far; Underrated playmaker.
5. Laine: 83G in 167 career games; Prolific goal scorer.
6. Eichel: Has yet to avg. a point per game or eclipse 25G in a season; Superstar potential.
7. Hischier: Only 19; Centers NJD top line in every game as a rookie; Point per game avg. this season so far; Excellent 2-way Center.
8. Ekblad: Rock solid defensive Defenseman; Needs to show more offensive consistency.
9. Patrick: #1 Center potential; Needs to improve skating and decision making; Probably should've gone #3 in Draft behind Miro Heiskanen of DAL. PHI needs defense.
10. Reinhart: Off to another slow start this season; Prob. a mid-1st rounder in a re-draft; 60-65 point potential.

I love how you're basing off of one breakout season. Last time I checked MacKinnon was averaging like 50-60 in 70+ games before last season. Eichel has been on a worse team and has a better overall points per game as I said before. Eichel is actually a fantastic skater, passer, shooter, and all around player. Then you go and put team achievements with MacKinnon. MacKinnon is also already into his prime years. So if eichel is doing just as good/ better individually now, then he's only going to get better.

You're basing your opinion on "potential" rather than reality. Sure, Eichel has the potential to be a prolific scorer and playmaker, but McKinnon has established himself as an elite player. He's taken a terrible team and made them a playoff team, engineering one of the greatest turnarounds in sports history from 2 seasons ago. If Eichel is a top 5 player when he's 23 I'll put him in the same class as McKinnon, but right now...it's not even close. Not even remotely close.

And BTW, Eichel is 22. McKinnon is 23. So you're saying Eichel will be better this season than McKinnon was last season, right? Good luck w/ that.

It's pretty darn close, but it has to go to MacKinnon at this point in their respective careers. Make no mistake though, Eichel will surpass him; probably very soon.
