Hard time to stay under the cap

Created by: Willian_Cardoso

Initial Creation Date: Nov. 3, 2018
Published: Nov. 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's so damn hard to keep Tampa under the cap, after Gourde and Point re-signs. Good luck, Yzerman to make it works...

PS: Anyone who wants to give me more ideas or change mines, be my guest. Specially, Tampa's fans.

Adding a $5.4 million per Ristolainen doesn't help either.

Fair enough. But I think he will get something about a million ou 1.5M. I don't think he's that bad. He has some upside.

If he stays in your lineup all season long and improve something, I think he can get even 1.5. I think he has some upside, as I said. But you're a Tampa's fan and obvioulsy knows much more about your team than myself.

IF he improves this year, then that number can rise. However with how he's played so far and is right now, I don't give him more than a million.

If I'm reading it correctly, Kilhorn, Palat, Callaghan, and Johnson all have NTCs in effect next season. Stevie Y is no longer works for Tampa, I believe. Wouldn't trade the cheap and potentially better Sergachov for Risto.

You're right. He'll have to convince them to give up their NTC. Another big problem to be solved. In my opinion, It's a mistake to re-sign Gourde. They should trade him after this season. It'd be pretty tough to keep all their key players next season. As for Risto trade...Sergachev is more talented indeed. But he's an offensive minded d-man, and I think Tampa will need a d-man with better defensive skills to balance their team. And Risto could be that guy. In this scenario, they'd still have a powerful offensive team with those forwards. Besides, Hedman is one of the best two-way d-men of the league and Foote has upside to be a very good one either.

I guess it was wise to sign upcoming UFA Gourde. They would get nothing for him as UFA, and if has another good season, at least he is tradable....either for picks or cheap ELCs. To me it going to difficult to trade those NTCs. Guys don't want to leave a good team...and if you like the Florida lifestyle why should they waive? Maybe Yzerman left his job because he didn't want to deal with the cap and NTC next season.happy

I'm not sure, but I think Gourde was a RFA. That's why I said they shouldn't re-sign him. But I'm not 100% sure. You're right about guys with NTCs don't wanna leave good teams. If I were them, I wouldn't either. But if Yzerman can find another good team to trade them, maybe they can accept to waive...We'll see what will be the next chapter of the Tampa's cap hell. I don't think it'll be as bad as Chicago or Detroit's, but they probably will have some troubles next season to solve this puzzle.

No, Gourde is a late bloomer, he was about to become a UFA next summer, before the extension. Yzerman has no longer works for Tampa.

Oh, you're right. I forgot both informations. My bad. Confused

Well, now it makes more sense to re-sign Gourde. Lose a player like him for nothing would be terrible for Tampa. Now, they'll have the oportunity to trade him just next season, if necessary. And for better assets...
