Solid deal, nothing bad can be said about this. 2nd year might be iffy, but he should still be a capable Starting goalie at 38

He's their starter now, and i think that's their plan for the next 2 years as well. Good signing.

Good contract. Saros is on a great contract, I can see them beginning to shift from a "starter and backup" to more of a tandem starters role, especially in Year 2.

I don't understand this. Saros is clearly the guy of the future, and surely that future is closer than two years away right? Nothing against Rinne, but you have to pass the reigns at some point...

I'd say this year Rinne plays 55+ Next year 41 Each and in his final year around 30-35

At $5M AAV this should be one of the best value contracts in the league. It's hard to imagine Rinne not being a top 10 Goalie 2 years from now. And the term is perfect. They can continue to develop Saros into their future elite #1. This also provides plenty of cap certainty-something many of the top teams are lacking (TBL, WPG, & TOR).

Bob had all summer to sign a mega-deal extension for $8M+ AAV.

Good signing, solid goalie, should be one in 2 years. Term is prefect and Nashville unlike a bunch of contenders has a straight forward cap situation.

I understand how people may think that the reigns should be passed to Saros, but Rinne is the Vezina trophy winner of 2018 give him some credit.

How are there 4 "NO" votes here? I'd love to hear some of these people justify their votes on how this isn't a good signing. He just won the Vezina and he's off to another exceptional start to this season. Currently his numbers this year are even better than they were last year. .948 Save %; 1.63 GAA; 2 SO. If that's not worth $5M than what is?

I don't get it.. how does Rinne's contract have anything to do with Bobrovsky's? This is a 35+ contract.. no way they were going to give him 10 mill per season.

Why was it potentially not a good signing? Expansion. If Seattle is a thing next offseason (or after), Nashville will run into some Fleury-Murray thing where they’ve got a big issue on their hands. The NMC given to Rinne is what makes everything complicated. Does Nashville protect Rinne and expose the younger, goalie of the future Saros? Do they trade Rinne? Give assets to Seattle to let them expose Rinne? It’ll be very interesting to see what happens

The five people that said no are completely out to lunch and must not watch hockey. Rinne has been one of the best goalies in the last 5 seasons and seems to only be getting better with age. Look at Luongo in florida. Had pretty good stats last year and his current stats this year aren't anything to shake your head at. He's 37 and still one of the best, when healthy, in the NHL. Teams are signed backups and fringe starters for anywhere from 2.5 - 3.5 mil and Rinne is taking 5 mill and short term with another Vezina type season underway. Saros will continue to develope and have an excellent well respected mentor helping his growth and also from that same part of the world. I don't think this hurts Saros in the least and if anything, will help him continue to grow even more. This deal is a steal. If they choose to, they can always move him for assets as well. Seeing how well respected he is in the organization and by his teammates. I don't see that happening. Poile with another steal of a deal. Even at one more great year. Its a steal.

I think this could for sure be a problem if they follow the same format as last expansion. There were rumblings that they may not follow the same format. We will see though. There maybe some behind the doors convo on this one. Should the expansion rules permit them to expose one of the two, Rinne will retire or something along those lines.

just found this info:

NHL GMs have been told Seattle’s potential expansion draft would be conducted under the exact same rules as Vegas was, per Bill Daly.

because he's 30 looking for an 7-8 year mega deal. Rinne's contract will have him till he's 38 and it's at a bargain in those two years.

While I voted “yes”, I could have just as easily gone the other way. Term and cost are fine, even for a 36 year old netminder. Sure there is always unpredictability when it comes to goalies so any contract is risky. But my main issue is the NMC and how it will affect the expansion draft and Nashville’s goaltending situation into the next decade. Barring Rinne waiving this NMC, the Preds will have to protect Rinne who is likely to retire in a year after the draft and expose a solid young goalie in Saros.

I would have preferred 6-7M with no NMC over 2y

Yeah, this is crazy! They will get crushed. However, Poile can make a deal to keep both in exchange for a high draft pick or prospect. Either way it's gonna sting. They'll almost definitely lose Saros to Seattle otherwise. Although, w/o the NMC I doubt Seattle would select Rinne at 38 years old anyway. They'd obviously prefer Saros or a top 6 Forward. So the MNC really just forces NSH to make an offer of compensation, similar to MIN offering Vegas Tuch and Haula so they wouldn't take a top 4 D. Expansion Drafts are where GM's really tested. George McPhee really held CBJ, MIN, and FLA, among others, hostage over their selections. Some teams weren't really affected much at all.
