Jim Fox is one of the smartest people in hockey and already has the players respect. He doesn't need to start as an assistant. Alain's style of coaching fits perfect with LA, he's a defense first coach. Patrick Roy would be a good fit as well. You obviously don't know anything about Jamie Kompon, He was our defense coach. Also has had Stanley cup success with LA and CHI and we all know how close they are in Winnipeg.
You're suggesting bringing in a coach specifically because he used to coach Kovi, maybe I should be asking you if you are being facetious...
I guess I can add Joel Quennville to that list now too...(No I am not being facetious)
Jamie Kompon was the offensive/power play coach for LA for years. Mark Hardy was the defense/PK coach until 2010 when he resigned due to the unfortunate sexual assault incident with his daughter. John Stevens was brought on board to replace Hardy as the defense coach, and has served in that capacity until he took over as head coach last season. After Kompon was let go from the Kings organization, he joined Chicago as an assistant and their PP specialist. Davis Payne replaced him as the Kings offense/PP specialist.
Here's a link to a Kings open forum hosted by Rich Hammond on LAKI. It specifically asked about Kompon staying on board as the PP coach.
Ask any Blackhawks fan circa 2012-15. They won their cups despite their power play, not because of it. Many a Kings fan on the blog, myself included, were very excited when he was let go at the end of the 2011-12 season. I'm sure Blackhawks fans were just as excited when he departed.
Here's an article written by a Chicago blogger that talks about how bad the Hawks PP was under Kompon.
I have had several conversations with Jim Fox over the years, and he has said numerous times that while he is flattered that people might consider him for a coaching position, he doesn't think he'd be good at it and prefers his position in the broadcast booth. I personally think he's a terrible broadcaster and wish that he would have retired with Bob Miller, but I'm willing to take his word that he wouldn't be a good coach.
Patrick Roy is a narcissist and a whiny little *****. I don't want him anywhere near my team.
AV hasn't had success anywhere in his career. He's kinda like Bruce Boudreau. He can build a strong regular season team, but can't win when it matters. He couldn't get Vancouver to a Cup when they had an abundance of talent. When he coached the Rangers, they were terrible in the Finals vs the Kings in 2014, and the weakest of the four opponents that they faced, despite it being the Finals. If it were 2008, I'd consider taking Vigneault. He's a good coach to get a team out of the league basement and into the playoffs. He's not the right coach to turn a bubble team into a Cup contender.
I wouldn't mind seeing Joel Quenneville as the Kings coach. However, the Blackhawks have him on the payroll until the end of next season, meaning they'd have to grant permission for the Kings to talk to him regarding a coaching position. He's going to be highly sought after, and I doubt they'd let the Kings talk to him.
I never said that Bob Hartley should be the coach solely because he coached Kovalchuk. I liked Bob Hartley for a long while and suggested that the Kings pursue him as coach back when they fired Sutter. It's only a better idea now that they've signed Kovalchuk.
