You only re-sign Hayes and Dzingel. Wilson, Nemeth, Zuccarelo can walk. Maybe even find a suitor for Soderberg and Calvert. Also, maybe they intend to also let varlamov walk? That's a lot of money coming off, 25 mill to be exact.

Doesn't that feel like alot to pay for just hayes? And I like what Calvert brings to the avs.. gritty pk guy with speed. I do think soderberg is overpaid, and if they want to be good next year I think they have to resign varly because grubauer has not looked like a #1 goalie so far

I was under the impression that hayes was going to be the face of the rangers going forward is that correct?

He would be but for the below reasons he isn't.
Zibanejad is too hard to give up given he's the only really strong right hand shot we have, it would be him or Hayes that would be moved (i think they both may be moved by the end of the 19-20 season.
We have Chytil, Andersson and Howden all NHL ready
Hayes just creates a log jam for our talented prospects unfortunately.
Rangers will be looking for a prospect that's either: RHD with top 4 potential, scoring winger with top 6 potential. It's okay if they are 2-3 years out too.
Even if they end up shifting Chytil to wing, Howden and Andersson deserve the number 2 and 3 center spots next year.

So would they be up for a package like makar for hayes/zibanejad with pluses on either side?

I don't think they should trade Makar. Barrie for Zibanejad with pluses on either side would be better

Makar should be untouchable with the season he's currently having, but Barrie doesn't make sense either imo. He's just a better version of Shattenkirk, and wouldn't be around long enough to help NYR rebuild. Timmins/Meloche would be a better fit for NYR, as they can lock them up with RFA contracts for years to come.

I definitely wouldn't give up that whole package for Hayes (assuming Zuccarello walks). COL isn't quite ready to be a cup contender, so there's no reason to be paying for rentals.

I'll give you meloche any day of the week but imo and I may be alone on this but I like timmins' style of play better than makar (because of what the team already looks like), especially when they have guys like barrie and girard, but you'd be getting back 1 of 2 great young players in zibanejab or hayes

I haven't watched much of Timmins (mostly highlights), but I agree on wanting to keep him to round out COL's d-pairs. In my ideal world, Barrie would be traded while his value is still high, to make room for Makar.

I've thought for a while that TBL is a good trade partner for COL/Barrie (something like Barrie for JT Miller, Callahan cap dump, and picks/prospects)

I think Hayes is definitely gone this year, Zibanejad at next years deadline. Unless we get #1 overall and draft hughes, Zib will be on the opening night roster.

If I was the GM, i would do a Zibanejad and Zucc for Makar any day of the week and twice on sunday right now. I would be more hesitant to give up both Hayes and Zibanejad this year as it would decimate the rangers lineup for the remainder of the year. Plus we could try another short term signing of Hayes (two years) to make sure our prospects have time to develop and not thrown into a negative situation (none of our prospects are ready for 1C duties this year or probably next year either). I would love to get Makar as that would give us a true blue chip prospect for our blue line (a more likely top defender that DeAngelo or Pionk would never be). Given the way Sakic is, i do not see him giving up Makar.
