Oilers with Taylor Hall - a thoughtful analysis

Description

Here’s my rationale:

- Hall = no Larrson. Self-explanatory.
- No Larsson = Oilers still need a decent RHD. Jason Demers was the best free agent option available.
- Hall = no Lucic.
- Hall = Oilers have a better record. How much better? In this model, it’s five draft positions in 2017, and ten draft positions in 2018. For simplicity sake, I took the players drafted in these positions (twenty-eight overall in ‘17, twentieth overall in ‘18) and made them Oilers. Yamamoto and Bouchard, in this counter factual, would never have been drafted by the team.
-Gryba, Davidson, and Pouliot are still on the team, at their original price points.
- The rest of the Oilers squad has been left alone.

Is this team better or worse than the Oilers are now? Is my methodology flawed? What would you do differently? I welcome your comments.

Your forward corps is better, but defence suffers. I'm not sure if this team is better or not... of course, if you went back further and kept Petry and Schultz, things would look different. It was those trades that led directly to the Hall-Larsson fiasco, IMO.
