Cant find a defender that works

Created by: Davisoc
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 8, 2018
Published: Nov. 8, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So, someone brought this up in an earlier post. And I know this is going to take some heat, but just think about it before pouncing with negative comments. I am not saying the value is equal. But it is a trade that could really work and make Toronto a very scary team. This could also help Florida with a more dynamic player on their PP.

According to almost every non Leaf fan on here, Nylander is worth a right handed defensive defenceman who would never make more than 4 million a year and the Leafs will have to add a 1st rounder.

Why you ask?

Because reality is for idiots.

Thank you, I actually enjoy going back and forth, so please I want to know your opinion. I see the value of Hubs and Nylander as being close, that being said Hubs has proved more, SO FAR. Of course Psysk is better but thats why I said there may have to be some adding, and I did think it would have to be the Toronto side, but this is close. In my opinion of course.

I would do Dumba + Greenway for Nylander + Sandin/Bracco/Brown? Something like that.

So very quickly looking at this... And yes I understand its a relatively low sample size, but lets just say its accurate for arguments sake... Why do we need D? 5th in goals agaisnt, 6th in PK. Why dont we trade for another affordable two way forward that can play in the top six? Any guys come to mind?

I can't see Florida agreeing to this. Because of Huberdeau's cap hit and term, he becomes an even more appealing piece considering all the cap hits that will be rising soon in Leafs nation. If the Cats need a refresh, the deal will probably look a little different. Not that it's the only thing the Leafs would want from Florida, but I am sure the Leafs would try hard to turn Nylander plus other assets to acquire Ekblad. That said, I'd be a little concerned with Ekblad's injury history.

I really dont think Toronto should shop for a D man.

Small sample size but top 10 in everything in the league, almost top 5 in everything. They are buying into the system and tightening up again. Freddy is playing unreal. I think a two way LW would be perfect.

A small sample size is different than both end of year regular season games when team's playoff hopes hang in the balance, not to mention the playoff themselves, which is an entirely different beast. Systems may be working right now and Anderson is playing well, but the fact that Ron Hainsey continues to play 20 minutes per game and is on our primary PK unit is frightening when you think about the Leafs in the playoffs. That is why fans on all these AGMS are looking for a Parayko, Manson, Pesce, etc., a young defender who plays, at least in part, more defensively and can keep up with this younger, faster NHL.

The issue with that is not the roster, its Babs. There is no promise that Babs will even play this new guy. I say we do Dumba + Greenway for Nylander + Brown and call it a day.

No promise that Babs will even play this new guy, and by new guy you mean the guys involved in your proposed deal, or in any deal? It's always possible. It look how many years for Leivo to crack the lineup, 3? I think. I don't think the Wild go for your deal. Because of couple of situations around the NHL, such as how bad St. Louis has been, or that Vegas has been quite mediocre but is apparently all-in, and the Canes are apparently all-in, Flyers are sucking at the moment, there is a tremendous amount of potential fits. If the Leafs have things their way, in the even Nylander does get dealt, it feels more likely that they'd want to move him out of our conference, or at least that is what is preferred.

Toronto has a little less than a month for people to get desperate. Best part is, Toronto isn't, so we have time to chill. We'll see I guess, the waiting is what sucks.

Don't be surprised if this goes down to the wire and Nylander, ultimately, does not sign by December 1st.
