Keeping Nylander trading for D and staying under the cap

Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 8, 2018
Published: Nov. 8, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m assuming Nylander signs before Dec 1 for somewhere around 7mil making his cap hit in the following years roughly 6,750,000.
I know Matthews could demand more but with Mcdavid at 100mil, and Eichel at 80 mil, Matthews at 90mil makes a lot of sense and doesn’t hurt his or the teams chances of winning cups.
If Marner is lights out all year they could always bridge kapanen if they need to come up with more money for him.

Why would la retain 2 mil of a fair contract and still get a player worth less than the guy they are trading away... they must really want that 2nd rounder

Yup, wouldn’t be horrible to get rid of some cap for LA but this usn’t The right way. Wrong player to the wrong team. Leafs aten’t Taking on cap.

Because Muzzin will be a UFA after 2019 and Brown is a RFA. The Leafs cud afford to sweeten with prospects if it makes sense

?? They wouldn’t be taking on anything they’d save 100,000.

That is 2 million real dollars that they would pay to get brown instead of trading muzzin to a team who can handle the caphit for better prospects

That’s the point.... LA’s cap strapped , their not going to retain 2m on muzzin... or trade him for brown and a 2nd.

It would depend on where the Kings are at in a year. If they disappoint again this year there’s a good chance they’ll need to retool and the leafs have the cheap controllable assets they would want in a trade for Muzzin.
