This really rings hollow when it was posted shortly after a post where a Leaf fan didn't do anything remotely as insane as this.

so you are giving yourself credit to signing Nylander to a contract that isn't going to happen? Not sure how that helps your case

Him signing a contract is of the same level of unlikelness as them making any of these trades?

signing that contract, yes is is very unlikely. He would have signed that already if that was the case and its already been floating around and speculated he turned down the exact same contract as Pasta.

True but do you think he'll sit the whole season? Apparently teams are already saying they won't go over 7 for him so he's not going to get what he wants and now he has to decide, does he want a little bit more or do I want to stay in Toronto?

He has all the power right now. If leafs want him they will pony up to pay him. and in some breath teams wont be trading for his full worth knowing they have to pay him. So he really has put the leafs in a tough spot.
If he is signed and with the leafs this year its at his price

That doesn't make sense. No team would trade for him without a contract so he signs and gets traded, signs with the Leafs or sits. Those are the options and the Leafs will sit him before doing a bad trade.

What dont you get. No team is going to trade for him at full value knowing they have to pay his demands. So if the leafs want to trade him and not have him sit out then they might have to take less than what he is worth in a trade bc what team is going to offer the leafs full value and maybe get into a bidding war while they know they still have to give him a contract.

Thats why the leafs are in a bad spot with how this is drawn out. IF they dont want to take less in a trade, or they dont want to pay him his money, then they might be forced to have him sit out the full year and try to figure it out in the offseason. In reality he has all the power in negations, leafs are against the clock, he really isnt

Do the Leafs not make money and keep playing this season regardless of what Nylander does? He can't play in the NHL without the Leafs say so. You do understand he doesn't get paid with out a contract?

if he remains unsigned after Dec 1st he can sign a 1 year deal with teams in Europe.

Also just a hypothetical scenario. Nylander doesn't sign and isn't traded. He just sits the season out. Playoffs come around, the team is fully healthy, and the leafs are eliminated in the 1st or 2nd rd (doesn't really matter for this example). The amount of scrutiny Leafs management will get from the media and Leafs fans will be unheard of. It will go down as a "wasted year" where TOR did not ice the best possible team with Nylander out of the lineup, and no trade was made to try and make up the difference. Very bad business.
If Leafs sign Nylander, then the problem goes away (doesn't look likely at the moment). If he doesn't sign and they trade him for whatever (as long as it helps the team and many consider it a fair deal) then any possible failure in the playoffs will shift the blame to Nylander and not Leafs management.

Dubas is still a new GM. Lots of pressure for him to deliver. He's doing the right thing by playing hard ball right now with Nylander. 100% gets my stamp of approval. However, it's a very fine line with playing hard ball for the good of the team and playing hard ball and hurting the team right now. If he's currently saying to Nylander "$6mil aav, take it or leave it"... and Nylander sits out the year because of that, he's hurting the team. If he's willing to budge (a little) on his offer and then ask Nylander to do the same with his demands, and Willy refuses. Then 100% he's doing the right thing right now.
My guess though, Dubas is sticking to his $6mil aav offer, and only willing to negotiate term. And Willy is sticking with an aav closer to $8mil, 5year +. I think a deal around $7mil aav, at 5-6years is what Willy will get when everything is said and done, either from TOR or another team.

he can sign in the KHL and play if he wants. He has options to play else where if the leafs make him sit. Like I said Nylander has the power in this.

He has the power to go to Russia and play in an inferior league for likely less money than he will make in the NHL playing for a team he doesn't want to play for. What power does he have. If no one else is willing to pay him his asking price, what power does he have? None.

This is all speculation but you are not at all understanding the situation.

I dont think you are fully understanding the situation,, you are look at it in some isolated vaccum. How hard is it understand. Nylander can play hockey if he wants after Dec 1st, he can force the Leafs to either pay his demands in contract, trade him so another team will pay his demands, or if they dont want to do either, he can go play somewhere else short term and let the Leafs have a valuable asset not be part of their roster in a year that they have the chance to be a serious playoff team.

It most cases the leafs will be forced to do something they might not fully want to do, Nylander has more of the power and will get the best results out of the situation.

Or Dubas can just say, "Fine, sit. Come talk to me when you feel like being a team player and having a real comversation. Oh you want to go to Russia? Go for it, enjoy it there until you hit free agency because we don't get bullied." That is the power TO has, they have a good team and Nylander makes them better. I'd much rather make him suffer than be forced into a bad situation.

Here is another point, if anyone was willing to give him the money he's asking for, that would have be mentioned. It hasn't because no one wants to pay him 8 mill a year. So what are his options?

Option 1 sign a contract with the Leafs and get playing in the best league in the world.

Option 2 demand a trade and see if anyone will pay you what you want. Hasn't happened because no one wants to pay him 8 mill

Option 3 don't sign and go to Russia. Then he can watch his value plummet because he loses a year of his career.

Which is the most likely of those 3 scenarios?

Also there isn't a scenario where he gets traded for peanuts and then signs a deal TO would definitely be willing to sign him for.

This guy doesn't hate TO, he's been open about wanting to be here long term.
