Why would Vancouver give up their first if they start tanking?

I don't think Vancouver is on Nylander's list of places he'd sign, and I think he is holding an offer-sheet from one of his preferred destinations that guarantees him a short path to UFA.

Probably $6x5 to NYR paying the Leafs a 1st + 3rd

Every offer will look amazing compared to that. scream frown

Vancouver keeps their first, replace either tanev or goldobin with virtanen. But with a contract like that I think the leafs retain nylanders service. I agree with the sit over the trade. I don’t think we win any nylander trade.

This is getting just silly.

Someone explain this to me please.

If Nylander wants 8 million (the reported ask) and TO won't give him that, why then will he accept less than his asking price from other teams. And if that is all other teams are offering him, then why would he move from Toronto for the same amount they are likely offering him?

Before you say the relationship has soured, do you think that would be the case if everyone in the world is in the same ball park offer as TO?

This is the logic people are using on this.

Nylander wants 8, TO is offering around 6.5. Nylander is soured to TO by the low offer, tests the market and no one is going to give him 8 mill a year. So now what does he do, sign somewhere else for the same money Toronto is offering because he's mad at TO because they correctly guessed his salary price?

Come on guys, if Nylander get's traded it will be to a team willing to pay him a fair amount more than Toronto. If no offer like that comes around, then don't you think Nylander will just say, "Well I guess we are going to have to rethink our demands, because right now, I am not getting any money.

Fair point, but Nylander is a guaranteed quality asset, playing the lottery has risk

NYR started rebuilding at the '18 deadline. I don't see them going for it this year, or giving up a 1st.
