How about neither... Burns is great but he’s getting older and is signs till age 40 at 8m. This just isn’t a good fit with our young core. We are not at the “need to win now” last chance stage. Karlsson is a ufa next season and by the looks of things will probably not be able to resign with the sharks and Toronto certainly can’t afford him.

Trading a 22 year old for a 33 year old just isn’t smart asset management.

There hasn't been too many Burns to Leafs trade....virtually all other RHDs have been offered to Leafs on CapFriendly. Asset management? Leafs Dmen cost 19m, Sharks Dmen 30m. Leafs 4th GAA, Sharks 17th.

This site is pretty crazy sometimes. Nylander is a hot topic right now I agree that this has gotten out of hand. Reality has to set in at some point. There's ZERO chance San Jose would accept a Nylander/Burns trade straight up. Forget the standard...Top Pair Dmen are worth more than wingers. It's true, but forget that for now. Burns is a DMAN with more points than a winger......A winger that gets to play on the TOP Scoring team in the NHL. AND I'm not talking a point or two. 21 points over the last (2) seasons. Oh, and the contract amount of $8M...What' Big Willie Looking for? There really shouldn't be any Burns for Nylander trade at all, but if there is Timothy Liljegren needs to be included.

With that said...If Burns was available. That team is SICK!!! Cup finals seems automatic and winning it is highly likely.

Burns is 33.... when Willy hits his prime burns will be 38... why would we want a 38 year old burns over a 27 year old nylander... I swear some people just look at stats and consider nothing else. This is a very narrow minded view you have. Oh and we aren’t paying Willy 8m are we?

What is literally everything. Playing hockey. Right now Willie doesn't play hockey. You cant get Norris winner and Hart finalist for just an arguably top 10 RWer...top 20 winger. Willie is good. Hes not Gretzky. And yes, recently this site has felt this way. I do however think SJ should consider a Karlsson + HIGH prospect for willie though.

We have the depth to carry on without nylander this season if need be. The issue is does San Jose or any team want to pay nylander more than the leafs? Also karlsson would not fit our cap next year and if he signs with an eastern team sharks lose a 1st and 2nd I believe. Otherwise yes I wold love to have karlsson.

Something isnt right with Karlsson in SJ. Blackhawks fans are sharing player comps between him and Seabrook. You know, the guy that everyone says is worthless...its jaw dropping. I'm NOT trying to suggest Seabrook is a better player, BUT the way each of them are currently playing...you might get a HAUL in a trade. Maybe he even realizes that hes not worth the reported $12.5M hes looking for. It's worth a call for Dubas to ask. SJ only has him this year...if hes not working out...
