That's a great way of framing the question. As a Caps fan Kuznetsov is not likely available. There isn't a better fit for the Caps right now, unless they get a brute force offer of, like, very recent top five pick, recent top ten pick, 1st, 2020 2nd, 2021 3rd, grizzled veteran on expiring contract?
I'm going to hypothesize that if you get enough answers to this, you'll find a rank of current trade value on current contracts might go something like: Klingberg>Kuznetsov>Silfverberg>Simmonds>Duchene>Saros>Kreider>Kovalchuk>Hyman>Komarov>Kovalchuk>Gudbranson>Kinkaid>Lowry>.... etc,
with values most variable on the constantly-checking guys like McNab, Komarov, Edmundson, MDZ, and Hyman.... and there would be debate about the value of top six centers vs. 30 goal wingers, that teams could come down on either side of, based on their needs?
