Well I think it is unfair to Buffalo but I also think that ovi evervgets trades. He is the face of the team and has been since he was drafted. If I’m Washington I would seriously consider it. Would be nice to skip the rebuild that is heading their way.

They could get a similar ballpark offer for him next summer, so this isn't worth giving up one more postseason of Ovechkin to get done right away. Also, minor details, but Washington has zero space, be it cap, roster, or contract. They'll pass on Okposo and Pilut. Might take Reinhart for Kempny who is half his cap hit and half his value, and then you''re down to about Ovechkin for Mittelstadt, Olofson, and a 1st. Maybe I'm missing something about Olofson, but I don't think this quite gets them to the table. Build it from their side with the title, "Not Back To Back," if you have questions?

A franchise face like Ovi(or Crosby) is going to demand an overpayment vs skill alone. I would say the following is a ballpark, not because of skill but because of who he is.

J. Skinner (signs extension in DC)
T. Thompson
R. Ristolainen
First RD Pick

For

Ovi + Balancing Salary (ie - Bura hehe) etc

Ovi is and always has been one of my favorite players but I would be absolutely livid if Botterill did this trade. After the past like 10 years of rebuilding and getting younger we trade 6 very solid players/prospects and picks for a 33 year old one dimensional winger??? This trade is just silly. Huge over payment. Makes absolutely no sense. The team is not going to be a serious cup contender til Eichel/Dahlin/Mittelstadt/Asplund etc. are all around 23-27 years old and by then Ovechkin will be like 40. LOL

Not bad if the Caps are into a rebuild by the deadline.

To get them to think about it today, add back in Mittlestadt, plus A. Nylander and another 1st. (edited: and, obviously, take out Burakovsky smile and balance roster spots/contracts with Jaskin, Dowd+ ECHLers)

More realistically, if Buffalo wants to add a top six wing, it probably doesn't come from a recent champion that's three points behind them in the wildcard race. Maybe talk to LA about Kovalchuk?

Agreed...but insane is what a Crosby/Ovi/ETC trade is gonna look like.

Then propose it for another team.

We aren't blowing our extended rebuild on garbage like this

In the context of a thread about the reigning champions trading their all time leader in goals and points, you felt everything was realistic up until the extra draft pick? Interesting.

We've all been trolled. Shut up, @ShutUp

The Sabres fans thought you were a Caps fan, and vice versa, but you're a Leafs fan, just here to sew discord: https://www.capfriendly.com/users/ShutUp/armchair-gm

Ovechkin is one of the greatest goal scorers to ever play, glad he got his cup. There is just no way the sabres do this. I would think if the sabres took a run at a great winger on the wrong side of 30 it would be kane- hes younger, and he would likely enjoy playing the last few years of his career here. I cant for the life of me see ovechkin showing up here- no bright lights and glamour and not many russians- and wanting any part of it. Fwiw, i wouldnt consider that package for kane either. Better to roll the dice and hope that a few kernels pop and they grow together.
