Why would buffalo do this? Trade a winger who’s playing quite well and arguably their top dman for Krug? It could even be argued that they lose a trade of just Risto for Krug

Thank you for your comment. He does eat up a lot of minutes, he does provide decent offensive numbers, he is right handed, and he is VERY weak in his own end, but neither is Krug from what I understand

Sort of, I thought 1) that the Bruins window is closing, 2) Krug is a possible trade candidate, 3) Ristolainen balances the RHD with the LHD, 4) Pominville would give the Bruins good RW who is very responsible in the defensive zone. I was wondering what the reaction would be to this trade. It appears both Bruin and Sabre fans hate it. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for responding, so is this trash for the Bruins or trash for the Sabres.

Thank you for your comment, Krug's offense is a bit better than Ristolainen's and Pominville is a UFA, you did notice that this was a dead line deal..

Thank you all for your comments. So both Bruins and Sabre fans say no. IMO, this could work really well for both teams. Boston fills two needs a RHD and top 6 RW and Buffalo gets a very good offensive defenseman (among top 10 NHL scoring defensemen the past 2 seasons). But I will succumb to the consensus and presume this is a bad deal.

Personally I think about every Sabres fan overrates Risto and every Bruins fan underrates Krug, but that's just like, my opinion

I can only speak for Sabre fans, yes they seem to over rate Ristolainen. As I said, I received the feed back that I wanted and actually expected, Sabre fans would hate the deal for the reason you mentioned above. Finally, I think the Bruins window is closing, Ristolainen is not the worse replacement for Krug and Pominville would provide a very good two way RW for the Bruins so I felt other Bruins fans may see the value in the deal (look what the Bruins gave up for Rick Nash).

I've been saying this for a very long time - Risto is not a bad hockey player, but he is also not a very good one either. If you put him on a majority of the teams in this league, he is a 3-5 defenseman. With the amount of minutes he plays per night, he will be worthless by the time he is 27. He would have a better career hidden behind a better d-core with less pressure. The guy is playing first line minutes on a team that is winning games and is still -11, ouch.

I think Pominville in a vaccuum is a good rental for the Bruins, although maybe a bit slow? So if we're still on Buffalo I'd try to rent Skinner, but considering his play so far the price would probably be very high. If you could bind a lot of the assets to him resigning I think the Bruins would be fine, cause they can't necissarily do that, but maybe that's a bad bet for Buffalo anyways

He's playing top minutes but getting caved in doing so. Just being on the ice says absolutely nothing about the player, and in the case of Risto, or from my Bruin perspective Carlo, they need sheltering to be effective. "But he plays tough minutes" - yeah but he's doing awfully in those minutes, much worse than other players on his same team.

Risto still has a PP upside, but it's a bit like Boedker in Arizona a couple of years ago, he's getting so much time on the PP it's inflating his counting stats. On a good team, you don't have to play em for 2 minutes every man advantage, so not even what they're doing well would be as valuable as they make it seem on a poor team.
