there is a reason Pearson went 1 for 1 with a much old Hagelin even though Pearsons the more accomplished individual player production wise with room to grow .

you're talking Duchene money for 30 year old LD and 27 year old winger that's just unreasonable for 2 players that are UFA's after next season .

best case scenario you trade with another struggling team like NJD ,OTT and FLA about making moves.
maybe OTT gives up Duchene and this bundle interests them but honestly the only way to get value for either is in a deal where they are the only pieces going out for LAK .

i dont like the idea of acquiring an older player for youth. i'd rather draft a young lhd, then trade a 1st rd pick for one. and when was the last time mtl traded a 1st rd pick? it'll go against the philosophy of youth and speed. toffoli is great, but not worth sacraficing that much youth. if it was like hudon and scherbak, yeah thats reasonable

Toffoli i'd pass on there are cheaper options.

Barber is a player very similar to Byron who fits MTL's system we could get for cheap .

Glendening is another guy we could grab for cheap

Hayes is another guy we could grab ,sign him to a 3-5 year deal
