William Nylander

Created by: RC333
Team: 2018-19 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 16, 2018
Published: Nov. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sign Willie to 6 million dollar contract with 1.5-2 million in signing bonuses

Asking price for Nylander is a top 4 D and a top 9 forward. I'll do my best to make an offer

I understand leafs fans frustration, any fan would be pissed if one of their young players was being selfish.

That's a big asking price for Nylander who may not sign. Canucks are also in that phase where they don't want to trade picks unless they're late picks.

I would decline because I think Dahlen has top 6 potential in the future. Tanev is better than zaitsev. Nylander is a good player but where the canucks are at they can't be throwing away potential lottery picks. Nylander is a good top 6 player but for the money he wants he will decrease his trade value. That's why dubas is asking for a top 4 D and a top 9 forward

I don't understand that signing. With bonuses that's about 6.25m per year on a long term contract. Leafs easily pay that, but Nylander apparently refuses to sign for so little. And that trade, Leafs would want abut 7 years of 6m per year in value, not as little as that offering,
The issue with any Nylander trade, is he has to be signed.

I meant we sign Nylander to 6 mil×7 years and add 1.5-2 million in bonuses each year. The bonuses won't go against the cap so it'll be like we're only paying him 6.

Bonus go against the cap. Even bonuses on ELC contracts go against the cap. Other wise ALL teams would just pay bonuses and the cap would be meaningless. A team like the Leafs with unlimited funds who don't care about money so much, (gross profit 130m) still have follow the cap rules.

The canucks would need to pay 8x7yr to appease Nylander.

That said, I agree that TO doesn’t want Gaudette with their strength up the middle already. The canucks aren’t likely willing to part with Dahlen at this point, even for a Nylander. Plus I’m sure the idea of a Nylander/Pettersson/Dahlen 1st lime followed by anyone/Horvat/Boeser has Benning tight and moist in the pants...

Realistically, I think you have to look at moving one or two of Virts/Granny/Baer/Lind/Gadjovich and probably a 2nd rounder or late 1st.
