Main point is that Stecher is a RHD. I think deal works for both sides.

I would laugh and walk away from the current trade.

Deal doesn't work for both sides. The Canucks have a lot more LHD prospects than RHD prospects.

Hughes is one of them, agreed. Juolevi has not been able to make that jump yet, and no one knows if he will. Del Zotto and possibly Edler are gone before deadline. Acquiring Maatta would allow them to move out someone like Pouliot or Hutton if they choose to. They have Gudbranson and Tanev on that RHD and both play top 4 minutes. Pouliot has played on the right before as well.

Didn't know that the Pens were looking for a RHD, not any more than every other team.

With Schultz currently out, the Pens only have Letang and Ruhwedel as rightys. I think moving Maatta for a righty would allow the Pens to have Ruhwedel as the number 7, and give Riikola some actual playing time. Just my opinion.

If Pouliot has played on the right before then why not take him in the trade. Why should the Canucks have to give up their youngest RHD to satisfy Pittsburgh? Maatta just seems like a short term solution which the Canucks don't need right now. I would rather the Canucks just stick with Hutton and Pouliot on the left side while giving Juolevi and Brisbois some NHL experience near the end of the season after Edler and MDZ are traded.

Fair enough! And the Penguins just moved Pouliot to the Canucks last year so I cannot see them taking him back.

I actually like this deal. It's not bad for either team. Last thing you want to do is chase defense in FA. You can talk about prospects all day but until they do something with it that's all they are. Just go ask Boston. All they did was hype up their "youth" and how talented they were. Now you got like 5 young "prospects" there who couldn't find the back of the net if you extended it by 20 feet.

Hey @LetsTalkNHL can you give me your scouting report on Carl Hagelin if you are really familiar with him? I trust your judgement and I am a Kings fan.
If you ever need information on a Kings player you are curious about I'd be happy to share that with you!

His whole game is based around speed. Very quick player. Great on the penalty kill. Very good defensive minded forward. In recent years, his production has gone down though. He will not put up insane numbers, but when he is on his game, he will chip in here and there. He also does not have the best hands. He is a solid 3LW that can play 2nd line minutes if he has too. He does not mind throwing the body and hitting people to win the puck. He usually does not take too many penalties, but this year, it seems like he was taking a lot more of them with the Penguins.
