A Trade That Makes Sense Let Me Explain

Created by: OvisBabes
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 18, 2018
Published: Nov. 18, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both Puljujärvi and Burakovsky are struggling young forwards who are both former 1st round picks that could probably use a change of scenery. In this scenario to the opposite conference in a trade that makes sense. The oilers need a speedy young winger to help out secondary scoring on McDavids wing and who better to fill the role than his junior teammate on the Erie Otters, a Mr. Andre Burakovsky. A fast talented kid that can find an opportunity there. and on the opposite side Jesse Puljujärvi who hasn't quite found his role yet but being on a winning team like the Caps can help change that. The 2nd and rights to Damien Riat are extra to compensate for the fact that Puljujärvi went 3rd overall but considering the deals Chiarelli has made in the past with talented young wingers (hint hint) I could see anything happening. There might also need to be some caprobatics needed to be done to make this happen because salaries with Bura at 3 mil and Puljujärvi still on his entry level. (Wsh retains half of Bura's salary for one year)

Finally, a Caps AGM.

I am not a fan of Burakovsky, but Puljujarvi has shown absolutely nothing in the NHL, rather actually showing that he just doesn't have what it takes for the NHL. For me, Puljujarvi = Yakupov. I would not be behind trading them 1-for-1 much less having the Caps add, or retain.

Caps would have to retain for cap reasons. But yes bura for JP does seem like a 1 for 1. Maybe the caps take on another salary in the 2m range.

Maybe leave trade as is 1m retained take rieder.

Rieder's having a good year. I doubt Edm wants to move him.

Burakovsky's pencilled in on the Caps' 2nd line tonight, with Backstrom and Vrana. Might get him going. If not, I"m not sure that Puljujarvi does any better in that spot.

I think the value might be one for one, in general, but this week, with Oshie and Kuznetsov out, both teams would rather have Burakovsky's experience than Puljujarvi's potential.

Edmonton fans have, at times, asked about Bowey. The Caps are also missing Orpik to injury, and their penalty kill, which already lost Beagle to URA, is flagging. As part of a bigger trade, like Klefbom and Puljujarvi for Burakovsky, Bowey, and a 4th, so that it offers each team some immediate improvement, plus some long term potential greatness, then it could happen right away.
