The Blues are a good team that just fired their coach. Management needs to wait and see what this team can do before making trades.

I know what you mean but one move isnt gonna make us contenders overnight, especially when its upgrading the asst coach to run the show. I wouldn't mind a big shakeup but you're probably right that they will wait and see how the team responds to firing yeo.

I guess the value might be fair, but what motivation would either team have to make this trade?

With the standings as close as they are, the season is still salvageable for the Blues. If not, the roster can still compete next year (especially if they land Coach Q). If the Blues should blow the team up (or at least jettison 'impact players'), why only trade Pietrangelo and Steen?

I may be wrong, but it seems like you included John Quenneville because that would entice Coach Q to sign on. Even if nepotism could persuade Coach Q, he and John are only 2nd cousins (which means that their parents are cousins); these probably aren't people that share holiday meals.

The Devils are a re-tooling team who are doing just as poorly as the Blues. Why would they trade Smith (their top prospect) and Severson (one of their only impactful u25 players) for Pietrangelo (who has two years before UFA) and Steen (who turns 35 this March)?

Pietrangelo and Steen both have full NTCs, and they've both been in St.Louis for almost a decade. Why would they waive their NTCs for a trade to the re-tooling Devils?

The Quenneville/Quenneville thing was a coincidence tbh - was just tossing in another prospect. I know the Devils aren't in great shape but I think Shero is an opportunist and if the opportunity to land a no.1 d-man arose, he may consider it even though I'll admit it seems unlikely. Anyone trading for Petro would have to be considering their long-term plans and want to work out an extension when the time comes so I dont think the contract situation would weaken his value. on the other hand, I see why NJD wouldn't be interested for the reasons you stated.

I wasnt trying to blow up the team, was just moving out the leaders in the room that keep getting their coaches fired. If not to NJD, send them anywhere with enough cap space that could use a changeup.

Personally, I think maybe Armstrong should get the axe. While he's made some good moves (Schenn/O'Reilly) he had to make those moves to offset all the bad cintracts he's signed players to. Berglund, Sobotka, Steen, Lehtera, Bouwmeester(yes, I do think his contract was bad from the start given term). While hes given the Blues lots of talent, they still lack the speed to compete every day. I like Bozak and O'Reilly, their goos centers, but we should have never signed Perron for a third time, we shouldn't have signed Maroon. This was the year to start using our youth and Armstrong once again said no.
