Why do these types of trades even exist? Are these trades just for the purpose of making trades (and making poor guys’ lives miserable)?

It's not a trade made by the NHL GMs, It's a trade ECHL Coaches request and once ECHL Coaches get it figures out they both request the GMs for it.
