I don't think the penguins are in that bad of shape. I can easily see them turning it around and competing for the cup this year. On the other hand, the opposite could happen just as easily and the they could miss the playoffs. What is almost a certainty is that the pens will, in desperation mode, move a 1st round pick, and potentially even this years.
So why not start a rebuild? Their division is young, fast and on the move UP. They're all getting bettter, and the Pens are getting worse. At the very least, they're getting old AF. Trade Horny, Letang, Brassard, Kessel, etc. Get picks, get good prospects and get going. The Pens have nothing in the cupboard. Zilch. Even if they think
They can content this year, how long can this last? They need cap reprieve to content on a regular basis. I say do it now and give Crosby a chance to mentor some good young players like Mario did for sid.
