Someone at the selection committee is catching hands if Scott isn't chosen.

Sadly also Jaret and Gabe are both injured, and considered doubtful to make the tournament. cry

It wouldn't surprise me if they decided not to take Merkley. His attitude issues plus his indifference to defending probably wouldn't sit well with the old boys of Hockey Canada. I'm not sure if he's improved at all since last season, but those were some of his major red flags at the draft.

Imagine if NHL players were almost always loaned for the WJC.

Canada adds Rasmussen, Sweden adds Dahlin and Pettersson, Russia adds Svechnikov, Finland adds Kotkaniemi and Heiskanen, and the US adds Tkachuk and Mittelstadt. The only good thing to come from a lockout is the absolutely amazing World Junior Championship

There's a strong case to be made that NHL teams should be required to release players for the WJC. Not sure the NHL would like this, but the IIHF would love it, and it would put a lot more attention on the tournament. Unfortunately I don't see it happening any time soon.

Why would the NHL care about that? Or what body is going to force them to release their employees for the tournament?

They wouldn't. The case to be made is in favour of the IIHF and the fans, which I mentioned in my first post.

You said there was a strong case that teams be required to release players. How? Who would force the NHL to let their employees participate on the tournament?
