Hyman has got to go

Created by: Goulet
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 24, 2018
Published: Nov. 24, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colorado and Boston have 2 of the best lines in hockey, we could as well. It's time to move on from Hyman in a top 9 role.

The actual top 9 wingers are all interchangeable for the most production. Why not dominate?

Hyman has a career .41 points per game average playing exclusively with Matthews and now Tavares as his centres.

He's the right type of player to have there, he just doesn't have the skill.

Just stop, Hyman isn't a scorer but he does she many other things that help his linemates that people who don't understand hockey understand. He's going to have 40 points and what else do you want? Marner is going to score over 90 points and Tavares could score 50 goals. Clearly he isn't a detriment to his linemates success.

yeah this is my thought too. Hyman is the guy you send to get the puck from the corner or the boards. That's how possession changes and space opens up.

I don't know if having any other winger on the Leaf roster would make that line better. And please don't mention the points per game. He doesn't play the PP. Leivo would be better? That's very subjective.

Check out the latest episode of the Sean Bean podcast. I eat my words sir. Totally thought of you when I admired he's far more skilled than I gave him credit for. I'm big enough to admit when I am wrong.

You need guys like Hyman to add a "grittier" type of play on a team who doesn't hit. He's not a goon and yeah he's not a skill player but look at Washington last year. Guys like Smith-Pelly, WIlson, and Eller played huge roles in them winning the cup. Personally i think the leafs could use 1 more Hyman, just not on the top line but with babcock you know thats where he'll be.

Leivo is good, his game has always been pretty good and it’s getting better. He is a fringe top 6 guy who does all the right things.... like Hyman. I have no idea what the person making this agm is thinking about. Hyman plays an important role. One that I think leivo could do a n the Matthews line. Great board work physical presence with good hands and a shot but most importantly a good two way player.

To goulet: hockey is a 200 foot game, please keep this in mind before crapping on the hometown pride of the Six!!!

I wouldn’t say Leivo is a fringe top 6 guy. That’s a very hard sell. He’s a fringe bottom 6 guy imo. He’s borderline AHL at this point in his career

It made some sense 3 years ago when the team had no depth but that depth has grown and displaced him.

Be careful on that pedestal...
Hyman does the things grinders do well but the problem is that this is not a grinding team. It's a skill team and there are better options to help the team win more games.

It's funny that you mention the power play. Teams stack up their best players on the PP to score more goals and this is a team that has to score more goals to win, it's a skill team. Brown hasn't been effective on the PP and Hyman doesn't play on it for an obvious lack of skill.

I stuck Leivo in there simply to avoid changing too much with the lines but he or Kadri, may be the best fit. Tavares has made careers for AHL scorers and giving Marner an option to pass to, like the give and go last night, should make the line significantly better.

More a product of the previous two losses. Unlike the Oilers, the Leafs have internal options for improvement.

This mentality made sense back when the Wings were relevant but the game has changed. The game is about speed and skill, grit is a bonus. Speed and grit in today's game belongs with more speed and grit, not the teams best players.
