Alzner to waivers

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 26, 2018
Published: Nov. 26, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Alzner, Karl ($2,312,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Played well under Trotz in Washington
MTL
  1. Quenneville, David
  2. 2020 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Rather than be on the hook for all $4.6M outright should NYI claim Alzner, get MTL to retain half. Alzner sits with a $3.6M cap hit even after buried in Laval. Here, it is only $2.3M - therefore MTL actually saves $1.3M per season.

Just curious, what do the fans and media think about a guy like Mayfield?
All I know is he's big and from St Louis, Blues could maybe use a guy like him going forward. Does he play with an edge, slow, good shot, ceiling?
What is his value, and are your team needs in relation to said value?

The question shouldn't be that Alzner played well before for Trotz but whether is a NHL Dman now and for the next four years. Cause if he isn't even 2.3m is too much to have him on the club.

If he clears waivers that's a logical trade offer. As a Caps fan I think Alzner is a very positionally sound player, who can help teams give up fewer goals.

For Montreal, the math is going to be a comparison against buying him out next summer, and that might reduce how much they'll retain, unless they're really excited about Q Jr.

I know he's a local kid for you but he's been solid for NYI. Leads defenseman in points but isn't overly skilled in any area. Just plays a sound game in both zones. I'd rather move Pelech

We're set on the left side. That's kind of what I assumed, decent defender, prob a good shot, maybe a little slow, and hopefully a gritty player.

Next year we have perunovich and mikkola on the left side, ones small offensive the other is big and defensive. Would make for a good mix and match 3rd pair, depending on the opponent

Something around like Schmaltz and barbashev, maybe mid/late picks involved
