Habs Aim to Peak in 2021-22 trades with LAK and VGK

Created by: RoadRunner72
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 26, 2018
Published: Nov. 26, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hoping that Weber and Price are still effective at 35 and 33 - but that's the reality of this team as it's currently built

Assume the pick from Vegas is #20 in 2019, select Arthur Kaliyev (LW). I'll also guess that if the Habs are sellers at the trade deadline in 2019, we'll draft at #10 (Philip Broberg LD)

The trades basically balance out the current defence and build toward the future. Muzzin provides stability on left side top pair, while Mete, Broberg, etc. gain experience.

Assuming Weber returns and plays up to expectations, Petry becomes expendable and the Habs are selling high on him as he's been great filling the top RD role for the past year. Better suited to second pairing on other teams like Vegas, but still very good d-man. The Petry trade provides room for Juulsen and Brook to gain experience and mentor with Weber.

Future's looking brighter....I'm basically showing a depth chart for 2020, some of the younger guys (Ylonen, Broberg, Suzuki, Kaliyev) will need a year or two on the farm before they are on the roster full time.

Tor doesn't want him. We already have Gardiner that is another version

do you not understand the difference between a LD and RD or are you just a fantasy league fan who's never laced up a pair that assumes for that money they should be able to play both sides?

TOR has nothing MTL wants , we need a top LD and TML D is an embarassment outside Reilly with not a single D we would entertain taking.

PHI is a much better fit for MTL in a deal because unlike TML they have players MTL wants

I added an extra prospect from Vegas (now it's Petry + 3rd for Elvenes + 1st). May be asking too much from VGK, depends what a proven 3-4 D-man is worth at the deadline. I agree with comments below that Toronto is likely not a good fit as a trading partner if the Habs target is either top pair Left D or draft picks. Besides, I'd hate to give the Leafs someone that can help them further dominate the Habs in the Atlantic over next 3-4 years.

You do realize TOR is also top 3 in the league right now right? and They have help coming in the back end of Sandin and Liljgren. They don't need to do any boneheaded moves like trade the help for crappy Petry.
