Possible solution for next years cap crunch 83Million Cap

Created by: KPasty
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 28, 2018
Published: Nov. 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LA Trade: Kings get a dynamic fast young winger who helps them get younger. Martinez becomes the 2nd pairing d man with Byfuglien. I think the trade is fairly balanced for both teams. LA gives me because Ehlers is a lot younger. Vesalainen can replace Ehlers on the 2nd Line.

Montreal Trade: Montreal gets a versatile veteran who can play at any spot in the lineup. Best suited as a 2nd line winger. His production is limited in Winnipeg behind the talent in front of him.

New York Islanders: cap dump. 3rd Round pick to take Kulikovs contracts and send back a for the most part insignificant 6th Round pick.

There’s still cap room for them to add at the 2020 TDL
Jets shed salary and in the end get themselves a 2nd, lose but also gain a 3rd and finally a 6th.

I think this leaves themselves in a great spot going forward. And I think the trades are fairly even.

you're asking MTL to pay to take your cap dump on a guy who would be a 4.1m fourth line player for the next 3 seasons .

he doesnt fit our needs at that price honestly you'd have to include a prospect with him same as you did Mason(Leon Gawanke or Brendan Lemieux both positions MTL needs filled making it worth taking that horrible contract)

I'll agree with the Jets might have to trade a few players at at discount price. Other teams aren't that interested in "cap dumps" and most teams have cap issues too, so if Jets aren't taking take cap, the return will seem low.
Trouba has done everything to be a free agent in the earlier time possible. There is about 1% chance he signs long term with the Jets. Trade him or if you need him for next years cap run be prepared for him leaving as UFA.
Like the Ehlers trade to the Kings...might be a good fit.

Interesting to say the least. Connor will want more, think $7.5M and Laine will get $9.5M. Maybe both sign bridge deals. Hawks need a winger or 2C, maybe Ehlers works.

Perreault is much better than a 4th line player, but I don't see MTL wanting him. Could see Jets trading Kulikov to MTL in a similar deal to the Mason one last summer (prospect, 2 picks in return for a career AHL player).

I'd rather keep Ehlers than get Martinez tbh. The Chiarot/Buff partnership has been good this year. And I'd bring Petan back for less than Ennis, for the Manitoba Moose Petan-Roslovic-Appleton was an amazing line that averaged more than a PPG when they played together. Connor and Laine get more but you're close on those contracts have the room to increase them without sacrificing another roster spot. I think it will take more than 7 to keep Trouba in WPG, unfortunately.

MTL doesnt want Kulikov either he's not fast or a PP guy nor can he play top minutes
we didnt just bury Alzner to take WPG equivelant to him unless we're getting a good return

just because MTL needs a LD doesnt mean we need any LD its why we have Schelmko ,Benn and Alzner as dead weight with 2/3 having term while Reilly and Mete have been our go to guys since their first games in MTL (Reilly even played 23 minutes his first game scored 7 points in 8 games i believe it was to start with MTL )

we dont mind taking players other teams dont value as Reilly for a 5th has been amazing for us but WPG doesnt really have any players like that we need as we need a guy for top LD playing 23-24 minutes or nothing at all and let our youth figure it out
toque liked this.
