I love the thought of Ilya getting playing time, and from what I understand about his personal situation, Nashville is about the only team for which he would waive his NMC. This trade benefits both teams. It will be interesting to see what Nashville fans say. (I think at the very least they'll make some lineup changes.)

I don't see NSH trading Tolvanen at this point. I believe that he is going to be a big part of this team's future.

This makes sense. I feel like NSH forward core isn't quite strong enough to match up with some of the better teams. Tolvanen I'm not so sold on. It may take years before he does anything and by then NSH cup window is closed.

Problem is, where does he fit in the lineup? Nashville has a talented top 6 and if they want to unlock Tolvanens potential then putting him in the bottom 6 doesn't do much good. He's not ready for that role yet but I'm talking a year or two down the road. Maybe they move Smith but I think Tolvanen would be better on his natural wing and right now he's stuck behind Forsberg and Fiala. I don't think Nashville moves him either but I think he's probably their most movable prospect. Poile has shown he isn't afraid to move guys like that in the past, no matter how talented they are (Seth Jones for example).

I personally believe that Poile would rather move Fiala than Tolvanen. I think Tolvanen has more potential than Fiala. I can see him becoming a very lethal scorer in 1-2 year(s)... With that shot, I believe he has the potential to become a legit 30-40 goal scorer in the future.

I'm with you, Tolvanen has the higher ceiling, but right now Fiala is ahead of Tolvanen in development. I could just see Nashville using Tolvanen to get a better piece to help them win now. They did that with Girard to get Turris.

Fiala may be ahead of Tolvanen right now but getting Kovalchuk would buy Tolvanen development time and i think Kovalchuk would be an excellent mentor for him. Also pushing Fiala onto a line with Bonino isn't going to end well imo.

If I recall correctly, Fiala also played in the AHL for a couple of seasons too before getting in the NHL. I see Tolvanen having a same kind of career development.

And when it comes to trading Girard (or even Seth Jones for a matter of fact), both of those trades were the kind of moves that would certainly help them. From trading Jones, they got a certain 1C in Johansen. From trading Girard and Kamenev, they got a certain 2C in Turris. But I don't see Kovalchuk being that kind of certain move. Tolvanen could become a better scorer in a time span of one year or two... They'd eventually regret that kind of move... Kovalchuk is already 35 years old... Johansen were around 23, and Turris around 26... they still had many years left in the league when those trades were made.

They won't regret moving Tolvanen, even if he turns out to be a 40 goal scorer, if Kovalchuk helps them win a cup this year and/or next year.
