As a wings fan, I like this trade a lot. However, I feel like Holland would want higher prospect (e.g. Thomas, Kyrou, Perunovich) instead of a Blais/Walman combo. Overall, this seems like a pretty fair trade.

I have no idea who has decided that Jimmy Howard is going to bring in some monster return for like 40 games. I'd do Allen + Walman or Allen + 2nd, but if they want more I'd take my chances with any other goalie (even Allen) over that short period of time. Goaltending is streaky and unpredictable. Imagine paying that price and Howard struggling / hitting a cold streak... Blues would go no where and then Howard probably ends up signing back in Detroit in the summer.

I think it's more about just getting out of Allen's contract. This season is lost without moving a few major pieces. The core is stale unfortunately. Moving Allen for Howard would be a good reset button to start with.

That's pretty laughable. A 34 y/o fine goalie on an expiring contract for a top prospect not only on the Blues, but in hockey? That ain't happening lol.

Yeah, as an outside 3rd party observer here, I can't see Howard fetching that kind of return. Any rental goalie really, in today's NHL, is not that valuable. I think it may have been someone from TSN I heard speculating that Ken Holland wants a 1st rounder for Howard. Even that is probably just the preliminary high asking price, expecting less. Maybe he gets a 2nd or a 3rd and mid-tier prospect. If I am Detroit, I take the latter and call it a win. Accelerate the rebuild.

I could see the Blues doing something like Allen + 3rd + mid tier prospect (to take on Allen). IMO that helps both sides. Worst case for the Red Wings they have to buy out Allen's remaining years after this year which would be negligible against the cap.
