Cam Atkinson: 26 years old, $3.5m/year, 27-26-53 in 81gp in 2015-2016 playing in all situations.
Rick Nash: 31 years old, $6.8m/year (in this deal), 15-21-36 in 60gp in 2015-2016 playing in all situations.

Add to that the whole "we can't afford to take on ANY salary or we likely lose Seth Jones for nothing" element and you've got the makings of something that has zero chance of happening.

The Rangers are essentially giving up assets to get rid of Nash in this situation. I don't think it happens, and I don't think the return is worth it.

As bad as Nash has been, i honestly don't think he's as much the problem as Girardi/Staal are. Nash still can turn it around easily with a bit of luck. Girardi needs to be moved out at all costs and if Soemone is willing to take on Staal's contract, then by all means make that move. Those 2 guys have albatross's contracts and are way worse then Nash's even though his salary and cap hit is higher.

Viqsi: You have to realize who you are talking too. Some Ranger fans don't realize other teams have cap issues. And the thinking that Nash is the Nash of 5 years ago....totally unrealistic.

Think many fans are saying get rid of nash bc staal and dg may not be moveable and changes do need to happen for this team. Reality is, Rangers need a sniper and there is none. If a sniper is acquired somehow, even if ck or hayes gets moved, nash becomes a lot more effective.

Others are right that the Blue Jackets are only going to make moves that are favorable to their cap situation. They're $7.5m under next year's likely cap and need to sign Jones and two forwards. I imagine they'll be looking for ways to move guys like Hartnell, Clarkson, and Johnson.

On top of that, just like at Columbus's needs. They don't need upgrades in their forward group and they certainly can't afford to move one of their few decent defenders with how bad their blue line is right now.

The final thing that gives me pause is the idea of Rick Nash going back ot Columbus. Do you think Columbus makes that move? They moved him out for a reason and I really doubt they bring him back so quickly. From a business / relations standpoint, that's a weird move.

I realize it; I just don't particularly care. Education is always virtuous. wink

I suppose we might bring him back as a bottom-6 UFA just as a final thank-you someday - kind of like how Detroit bought back Darren McCarty that one time.

That and Prout qualifying as "decent" is a little dubious. Jones, Murray, Werenski, and Savard are the future of the blueline. But otherwise, yeah, the needs situation is such that Nash isn't necessary. (The role's being more than adequately played by Saad.)
