    They might as well just keep Gardiner and play him or Dermott on the offhand instead.

    Barrie is better than Gardiner and Dermott.

    If they cant sign Nylander they should look to trade him rather than letting him sit out a year and not getting any value out of him.

    First that's a bad term (for term) for Leafs. Leafs would probably be glad to sign Nylander for 6.9m X 8, instead of trading for Barrie with 1.75 years till UFA.

    Barrie may be slightly better than Gardiner, May slightly. Dermott Is a cost-controlled rookie at this point that still on the team. Neither of them cost you Nylander.

    Barrie > Gardiner easily. I certainly wouldn't trade him for Nylander.
