Ignoring the quality of the trades for now, but if they did do all of these, would they have enough cap space for Doughty's extension, Iafallo/Kempe/Petersen's RFA contract raises, as well as extensions for Zuccarello, Duchene, and Voynov? It seems unlikely.

Kempe isn't going to be making 3-35x3 like we all thought he would. He hasn't produced enough for that kind of money. Iafallo I could still see a 1.45Mx 1-2 years. He hasn't done a whole lot yet either. Petersen will be in the AHL for further development I'm assuming. Zuc can walk if we don't have the $ to sign him. Voynov would depend on how he performs.

I think Kempe gets $2.5M+. There's more to his game than scoring goals. He kills penalties, and is the embodiment of the defensively-responsible-but-speedy identity that the Kings are trying to move to.

Iafallo has cemented himself on the first line with Kopitar and Brown for the second season now. I don't think the Kings will be able to convince him to accept less money than Trevor Lewis. Remember that because he played four years in the NCAA, he'll be 25 when his ELC expires this summer. He's not a younger kid like Kempe or Amadio.

You would still give up all of that for a rental Zuccarello?

After Petersen's performance so far, I don't think there's any chance they send him back to the AHL, especially if you ship out Campbell+ for Duchene. Even if they don't, I think they trade Campbell at the deadline or during the offseason and Petersen serves as Quick's backup or 1B until the expansion draft in 2021. If Quick isn't selected by Seattle, then they'll trade him.

If the Kings didn't have long term plans for Voynov, I don't think they'd risk the PR hit to bring him back. They might be able to get him to take $1M for the year he returns, but if he does play well and becomes a pending UFA, there's no way they could convince him to stick around for less than market rate.

Voynov is the elephant in the room. Why the heck isn't he reinstated? Watson did his time with ZERO public blowback. Sign SV, trade Forbort and Muzzin or Martinez to clear space. I do think you're way overpaying for Zuch and Smith-Pelly? I get the feeling you really like him.

I do like both of them and think it would be worth it for a playoff run. Yes, it's ridiculous, Voynov needs to be cleared already...

I forgot I shipped out Campbell, you're right. Yes I would give all that up for a rental Zuc. Of course I'd only do that if we were in a playoff contending position by the deadline. I'll make a part 2 to see how it could go
