I'd rather give ya Pietrangelo. Does more for our core shakeup. Even if it's just 2 years, Pietrangelo would add a lot of value / balance to TOR. Plus, I'm told that TOR has this wizard guy that makes them cap compliant, so they won't have to worry about what happens when Petro needs a new deal.

I'm just not sure if Toronto would want to have to worry about Pietrangelo's contract in addition to Matthews and Marner. Pietrangelo, who would be 30 years old, would probably ask for $7-8m, which just another Nylander contract. He's not a rental option either because Toronto's prime are going to be the next 2-6 years, so they'd lose an essential piece. Pietrangelo could serve as an important veteran piece while St. Louis transitions into a younger team. Meanwhile, Parayko makes $5.5m for the next 5 years, and is only 25 years old.

So you've figured out why I'd rather give up Pietrangelo than Parayko! I just think the Leafs are a lot better than even some Leafs fans will admit right now, and adding a top pair defenseman to handle the defensive side of Rielly's pairing would take them way over the top as favorites this year and next, at least in the East. Seems like all of the other trade options for Nylander end up with a defenseman who is admittedly worse than Nylander, why not try to make the trade for a guy who is better, even if it is only for 2 years... won't Sandin/Liljegren be ready by then?

ya leafs arent sending nylander for 2 years of pietrangelo. age and control matters, that's why parayko works.

Works for 1 side, not the other. Why would we give up 4 more years of a cost-efficient top RHD when our biggest issues are current leadership and team defense? Makes sense for STL to move on from Pietrangelo and build around Parayko.

... almost like, if there was a deal to be made here it would've been done already...
