Waaaaay too much. (Original post had it at 6,900,000) Definitely NOT a good deal.

Uh, you know that the 10,2 is only for this year right?

Day 1 of the season the (undisputed) rumor was Dubas had offered 8 years x $6.000 million = $48 million

by waiting for 31% of this season, the offer increased to $6.9 million (reported elsewhere) x 6 years, after which he is UFA

=> 5.69 x $6.9 = $39.621

If Willie earns more than $8.7 million at age 28-29 in 2024+2025, he will have made more money.

caveats:
- Willie doesn't sustain a career ending injury
- There is no lockout, or the Day 1 offer did not include being paid with a signing bonus during the lockout year
- He is not traded to a team that is so much worse than the Leafs, so that his lifetime earnings past age 30 with the Leafs ends up being higher than going UFA 2 years earlier

The Leafs' future plans: If they don't want to keep Willie long term, the time to trade him is this season to allow for extending Gardiner+Matthews+Marner and to save 1 protected slot in the Seattle expansion draft

so after this season, cap hit of $6.996mil. Most Leafs fan did say they wouldn't like a deal at $7mil or more. Technically they got what they wanted! lol

The Leafs could have had a discount of 0.31 * $6.9 / 6 = $357k on Nylander's cap hit if they had started the process earlier and signed before the regular season. Money paid to Nylander would have been exactly the same.

Penny wise, pound foolish

I like Nylander at $6.54 a lot more than Nylander at $6.9. He feels destined to be traded, hopefully he plays his tail off so that we get a good haul before the trade deadline

(if the salary is $7 instead of $6.9, starting earlier but paying him the same would mean a cap hit of $6.64)

Ok 10.2 for year 1... But he's only got 56 games left regardless of shape/size. After that the 6.9 might be worth it as long as he scores but he has to score > x # of points. Right. I think Leafs look to trade him.

I voted no before reading the details, 10 million is too much but thats just includes the signing bonus for the first year, just under 7 is fine for him.

They were fighting over that last 4,000 a year. Nylander didn't get it in the end.
