Lou had to give Marleau 3 year’s instead of two. A total lack of foresight on his part considering everyone knew the Leafs had 3 young star RFA’s all within a year of each other.

I wish someone would please explain to me how TOR possibly intends to keep all 3. Matthews and Marner are gonna ask north of $20M combined. That’s a minimum of $45M for just 5 Forwards.

Sure they're gonna ask north of 20M combined, but only one is getting 10+. Also, Marelau has essentially no real salary left after July 1st so if he waives his NMC he can be traded to a floor team. Hainsey and Gardiner come off the bookx and Brown/Hyman are on easily tradable contracts.

"All of our problems in game 7's are solved now, we have Stamkos"

Is he still at 0 goals / 0 assists? He's played in like 8 of them hasn't he?

Well, good news he's only signed for 10 million this remainder of the year. Bad news, he just finally signed. Just under 7 million is fine for him.

not sure what that has to do with this, but you can ask Detroit and Calgary and NYR how we did in Game 7’s.

speaking of Game 7s, when can Toronto beat Boston?

Toronto won that they get him with 7.5m per year but because of the contract situation they save 600k of space each year unless this one ( they have plenty of space

No the leafs signing nylander isn’t going to help tampa’s Defence. But I don’t think your defence is that bad. You’ve only allowed 9 more goals than the leafs....

All true. But they're gonna need to either extend Gardiner or sign another top 4 UFA Defenseman. Otherwise they'll be playing 6-5 games all season long. And I really don't see any situation where Marleau is NOT a Leaf next season. Why would he possibly wanna leave TOR where he's getting way overpaid and has a chance to win the Cup?Marleau is the major hurdle Dubas will need to figure out if he wants to keep the big 3 together. Plus, they're gonna probably lose Kapanen. He's gonna be looking for $3M+ AAV and there's no way they'll be able to keep him too. It'll be very interesting how this all shakes out next summer.

Where does this mindset come from: that it's always labor being greedy when trying to negotiate how much they'll be paid, but never employers who are trying to negotiate how LITTLE to pay workers?

It's bizarre.

You really think they can lose Gardiner and Hainsey and still win the Cup? You really think 3 kids ages 18, 19, & 21 will take them to the Cup? Maybe they'll be ready in 3-4 years to play big minutes, but they're nowhere close to good enough to match up against the best of the best in the playoffs-they'd get destroyed. You can't win games 6-5 in the playoffs every night. Welcome to the NHL.

In fairness to TBL, while #1 Goalie Vasilevskiy has been injured, Louis Domingue has a 3.29 GAA and .896 Save %. Freddy Andersen has been the Vezina frontrunner so far this season. Also, Hedaman hasn't been playing at the same level as last season yet and Stralman has also missed games. With both teams 100% healthy I definitely like TBL's defense a little better and TOR's offense better.

Sandin has been unstoppable in the AHL as an 18-year old rookie this year and Liljegren will be 20 this spring and might get the Dermott treatment this year. They will absolutely be ready next year if not this. Dermott is also a legitimate NHL defenseman by this point.

I don't doubt what you're saying for a moment. All three should be solid NHL players. But the NHL playoffs are a totally different ballgame. The physicality is ramped up big time and the speed is far far greater than even regular season NHL games. It's a big step to take. Clearly, Dubas is counting on a young D-corps on entry-level contracts to balance out the ridiculously disproportionate amount of cap space being spent on his top six Forward group, plus Kadri at $4.5M AAV. I'm definitely curious about what Dubas plans to do w/ Kapanen though. He could expect $4M AAV and I don't see that in the cards for the Leafs given their cap situation. He could be a. valuable asset for a trade though. To say the Leafs have an embarrassment of riches is an understatement.
