Pesce for Shattenkirk

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 2, 2018
Published: Dec. 2, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I recently posted a trade which led me into a discussion with a frequent commentator over objective truth. To cut to the chase, eventually I contended that the New York Rangers would not trade Kevin Shattenkirk even up for Brett Pesce. His response (because if he conceded I was right on this point, he would lose the underlying argument) was, and I quote, “The Rangers would trade Shattenkirk for Pesce, and throw in a first rounder, and their best prospect … Carolina would still decline.”

Please voice your opinions on the folowing: (a) whether the Rangers would trade Shattenkirk even up for Pesce, (b) whether the Rangers would trade Shattenkirk, a first round pick and a prospect for Pesce, and (c) whether Carolina would reject such an offer.

This trade as is reminds me of a far less extreme version of Shea Weber for P.K. Subban. I think it would appear on paper that Carolina got fleeced. I don't think they want to get older.

Thanks for the input. So you think I'm wrong about (a). What about (b) and (c)?

Canes would reject straight up deal.

1st, best prospect and Shatty for Pesce - - - the Rangers would not do it and of course Canes would take it.

I don't think the Canes move Pesce straight up for Shattenkirk. I don't think NYR would offer that, and I'm not sure CAR would even accept it if offered because they want to win at some point soon. They've been rebuilding for a while.

(b) whether the Rangers would trade Shattenkirk, a first round pick and a prospect for Pesce
I don't think Pesce is worth Shattenkirk a first and prospect in my opinion. The Rangers would avoid giving up such a large amount. Sure I think they would be interested in Pesce but not at that price. A first round pick for the Rangers right now is most likely going to be a lotto pick.

(c) whether Carolina would reject such an offer.

I don't think Carolina could reject that. Depending on the prospect and how the Ranger are doing I think Carolina would happily take that and flip Shattenkirk at the deadline for even more futures. That's a lot of value going to Carolina.

Brett Pesce is worth more then just Kevin Shattenkirk, Besides no way does Shatty leave his hometown Rangers for Carolina period. No way Shatty gets you Pesce.

I would accept this deal as a rangers fan. It would be the correct way to go towards the rebuild. Getting younger without giving up many assets would be great. However, carolina doesn't make this move. It is very similar to the weber for subban deal but we all know who won that deal.
