I'm not surprised that Sprong is on the move, but I thought that Rutherford would have packaged him with other assets for a more established defenseman.

Love the trade for the pens and I find excuses to **** on them lol. Peterson will become a top 4 guy, quality defensive defensemen for a team lacking in defense. Really puts pressure on Olli Matta cuz he is now expendable. I would say jack Johnson but no one wants that scrub. Trading a top 9 guy for a need is always a plus

Sprong had potential but the ship has sailed but Pettersson could be a diamond in the rough. Ducks fans, what is he like? Good defensively?

Remember when Pens fans toughted him to be a perennial 30 goal scorer?

But seriously, it’s a good deal for both. Pettersson is a pretty underrated guy, but there wasn’t a whole lot of room for him to crack the Ducks left side. With Sprong, now they have some more scoring potential that they desperately need. Works for both

I didn't. I thought he'd bust. Prospects get too much hype honestly.

Pittsburgh could've gotten a late pick back maybe. Not too bad though.

Sprong will be missed. But honestly I wish Rutherford traded Sprong for either an established goalie to help, (We Badly need it). Or even a strong forward or dman to help. Basically Pittsburgh could have made a big trade with him and got some serious contending help, but now we are stuck with an even worse rookie than Sprong.

I'm not surprised that this trade occurred. But, I never really understood what the desperation was for PIT to shed themselves of Sprong. He's under their control and if PIT thinks he can play like most fans on here think...use him next year when guys like Sheahan and Brassard are gone?

He has only played 27 games for the ducks this year.... i think he cracked it. There are just a ton of d men ready to play here. And when Fowler returns, something had to give with how well Larsson has been playing.

he plays a good two way game... Not as offensively gifted as some. But moves the puck quick. He is still young and growing defensively. I am not shocked he is gone, but also a little bummed. But Larsson has played himself into the lineup with Fowler out. So something had to give.

That’s what I’m saying. He’s really been getting spot time when someone gets hurt. Lindholm, Fowler and Larsson are occupying the left side

Desmith has been playing decent enough, goalie is the last thing the team would have needed. Would rather hold onto sprong than waste the asset on another goalie. The problem is other than Crosby nobody has been scoring and the team as a whole hasn't played that well of defense(even when on the PP, too many shorthanded goals against)

I never was one of those who overhyped sprong but even from somebody skeptical about him as a prospect not sure how I feel about this deal. The team handled him so poorly, both Rutherford and Sullivan, but he didn't do himself much favors either. Never heard of Pettersson and they could use defensive help but not sure if he is the guy or not.

He has played all but 2 games this year. You cant call that spot time. Plus he play a lot down the stretch. And with Larsson playing well, he was expendable.

I referred to him as a bust and a pens fans told me I was restarted and he’s going to easily score 25-30 goals this year haha

Horrible trade for the Penguins. Sprong has obvious talent. He was yet another player mishandled by Sullivan and the front office. They ruined his time in the AHL, and then Sullivan chased him out much like he did Cole. What a mistake that was and what a mistake this is. You win two cups, your head gets big and then you drag the team into the gutter. Nothing but bad signings and trades the last two years. This will be another.

Maatta will be traded before the deadline. I'm sure of it.

I think the "Big move" is forthcoming. I'm thinking if PIT is outside the top 3 in the Metro on Jan. 1st we'll see a big name get traded. Possibly bigger than Maatta. maybe even Guentzel or Kessel.

I am so confused why Pit took a bad return for Sprong?

Well, hindsight is 20/20. PIT sold low on Sprong at the time, but it worked out about as well as it could've.
