SJ didn’t want Marleau to go. The Islanders’ GM signed Zaitzev. Don’t think they’d take them again for a good draft sweetener? Riiiiight.

On Marleau....I doubt he waives a NMC...and also think it doesn't make any sense to have to add a sweetener to move a consistent 25-30 goal scored making $6.250.000 for only one more year and is a phenomenal locker room presence.

On Zaitsev...he has trade value. It's not high...but don't see the need to package him with a pick to get rid of him. I might be in the minority on that take...but I'd think there's a squad out there who would give a 7th rounder or journeyman AHL'er straight up for him with no retention.

isles did the leafs one favour already by taking matt martin, retention free, do they do another? Zaitsev is probably is worth his 4.5. replacing with same priced player might be difficult

Not difficult at all. Replace him with Gardiner as I showed. Huge upgrade.
